Look what happened with the Rob Ford crack video kickstarter. They raised 200k, then when the drug dealer pulled out they gave the money to an addiction clinic.....
Thankfully we shoule get to see the video soon!!!!!!

Yeah, but in this case Devi raised $40,000, spent it, and didn't finish the Console.
Also, didn't Rob Ford cop to smoking crack anyway? No real reason to see the video, then.

... I'm not surprised, but I did hope that she succeeded this time, mainly for all the people who thought the console was a cool idea and bought one. Thankfully I was never too into it so I didn't get on board, gutted for everyone that did.

I liked the idea. I would have bought one. But, I have a rule about not paying builders for pedals ahead of time, unless it's something custom. Too many experiences of builders taking way longer than they said they would. So, when the Console kickstarter came up, even though I wanted it, I held back due to my policy and due to devi's sketchy history regarding it. I figured if she actually did make it, I wouldn't mind spending a little more to pick one up after the fact than to trust her with my money beforehand, not knowing when or if I'd ever see a return.
I think many people should think about this before they fund any kickstarter project in general. Could you wait and pick it up after it's actually made? How much would lose if you just waited until the product actually exists?
The one thing I don't understand is that multiple people in this thread have said that she has no legal obligation to return the money. Is that Kickstarter's stipulation? That you can't sue to recoup your money if the builder abandons the project? If so, that sucks that they make you sign your rights away in order to spend money for products that don't exist. But, if kickstarter doesn't have you sign your rights away, then you certainly can sue to recoup the funds. And with $40K at stake, I would think a group of investors could easily find a lawyer to take the case and maybe even sue for damages as well.
Sort of. Basically, there is no recourse
through Kickstarter to get your money back. I'm part of another Kickstarter, the Open Locksport one, and we're past the 2 year mark of waiting for lockpicks. In some cases, people actually filed something in the state of NY (where the guy lived) in order to basically come after him as a merchant who stiffed them. But that was far outside what Kickstarter was doing or willing to do.
That said, it always sucks to see people get screwed on a project. I've been a part of great Kickstarters, and some really terrible ones too. It's a neat idea, but there's definitely some serious risk involved.

I'm not sure why I sank $425 into this thing. I knew her track record. Guess I just wanted to believe that because there were other people involved that somehow this wouldn't end up like a normal Devi Ever project....

If she wants to send me a silver rose to help compensate me I might be okay with that.
Maybe I'll look into that small echo array, and hopefully that disk echo actually happens now. I also hope that Devi Ever actually finds something she's passionate in and won't flake out on like she's done with all her previous stuff.

I have no real horse in this race but the whole thing has left a bitter taste in my mouth
I hope everyone gets their money back and Devi finds happiness in her new endeavours

A shame, really, though not much of a surprise as already stated.

I feel bad for Devi and for her business (this really was the last nail tp the coffin, I'm afraid). Not to mention all the backers. Some of them might have still had hopes for this thing getting finished even if it was her crazy design swansong (...well it was apparently Ken that actually did a lot of the design thus far) ...her business could have used it. She hasn't been known for keeping up to her old fame lately. by lately I mean in the past three years or so.
But at least she got her vagina and I think that is actually a cool thing - very unfortunate that she wasn't able to come back with the product that paid her for it. The Devi credit... isn't saving much, though she has cool pedals. I hope - for everyone involved - that she can pay back everybody soon-ish and save what is left of her integrity. She shoved some - as phantasmagorovich pointed out - in her non-drama and honest message that mjust have been very hard to release.
Yeah, I think this is just sad, and I feel bad for her, too.
And I'm not a backer myself, i just remember her from when she was a part of this forum, when she was a hot new name in making the crazy noisy modern fuzzes. And I really like (and use) a few of her pedals.

After watching her pedal business nearly implode when she decided to make the shift to being a vidya gaems code monkey I knew better than to contribute. She got involved in too much with too little time and experience. It's a shame and I do applaud her "I fucked up" post, but I hope she learns from this experience and gets her ducks in a row before moving on to her next venture.

I don't want to seek gossip but I have literally no idea what this means. Was she a dude before? I'd have just kicked in 10 bucks to help someone out.....

He only admitted to it 6 months later, after the police chief confirmed it had been recovweed in a drug raid. Everyone in Toronto still has plenty of desire to see the world's shittiest mayor huff a crack pipe.....

Devi was biologically male. She had a crowd sourced fundraiser to pay for sexual reassignment surgery, can't remember if it was kickstarted or not.

Too bad. I always thought her asking prices for designing a pedal were too large. Then I think she mentioned that she could focus full time on this and not have to worry about anything else. It's be income and it'd be r&d.
Silver rose was way over priced as was this. I hope every single person gets this resolved.
Most bummed to read people talk about not trusting Kickstarter. I am about I start one for my band. Two piece and impossible for us to source revenue for an album pressing in a timely manner. You guys were my main hope since we have very little web prescence. Oh well.
I wonder who is getting the bidnassā¦TD? Ken?

I'm really surprised by all of the maturity and well-wishing in here. If I had put up a $100+ and waited 1 1/2 years only to be screwed over by the seller's financial mismanagement, I wouldn't be nearly as sympathetic.
BTW I don't have anything against Devi... I'm just genuinely surprised by everyone's reaction (and the lack of pitchforks in here).

My condolences to anyone who lost money during this. I am new to the world of guitar so this is the first I have heard of this thing.
I am a bit confused though about Kickstarter. What value, if any, does Kickstarter provide to the investor? From reading the threads here, it seems as though if the project doesn't materialize they can't/won't help you in anyway recoup your losses. Perhaps that is the nature of investing however - there is always a risk. So that may explain that. But is Kickstarter simply a convenient way for investors to seek out potential projects they want to get on board with? What I mean is what value is there to the investor giving money via Kickstarter versus just giving money to some dude on a web forum asking for money for a project?
What I would like to see Kickstarter write into their contracts (if there are contracts), which I know won't ever happen, but it may be something you personally want to think about if you invest in the future, is have the person lay out a very strict timeline of what will be accomplished by what date. And if they fail to meet those progress deadlines, you have legal recourse to get your money back at that time. Like I said, probably won't happen, but it might be something you may want to ask of the person you are investing in to help keep tabs on progress and move the project along.
