This is a brilliant moment in basketball. Stan Van Gundy has a great interview on the Lowe Post (Grantland) from the end of July that's totally worth listening to.

The Celtics are going to be not-good-enough-to-contend-not-bad-enough-to-get-a-good-draft-pick yet again. Ugh. Just ugh.

:D sorry couldn't resist. The name Pelicans has in fact grown on me, and it's largely due to the great logo/colors/font rebranding.
The mascot however...still horrific.

But I don't expect the team to look the same, come winter. Eric Gordon is too unreliable. I suspect he will be traded before the All Star break.
I was hoping Alvin Gentry would grab Zoran Dragic after he was traded to the Celtics/waived, but he was wooed by Moscow and is now out of the league.
It was AG & Steve Nash, who helped [Zoran's] bro Goran adapt to the NBA game & develop into a 3rd team All-NBA MIP. The Dragic bros have game...and heart.
I remember watching 2010 playoffs and seeing dude, as a reserve lead the second squad to win a big game vs the Spurs and then the Lakers.

AD is going to thrive, developing under AG. Shame that ZG wont be along for the ride.

I know why Thibs doesn't have a gig but that seems so fucking stupid to me.

Also Brad Stevens is overrated as fuck and I say that as a C's fan.

Oh man. Can't wait for this season. Everyone getting healthy. Gonna be able to catch some games down the road at Barclay's. Hopefully my friend who works for Brooklyn can get me some Cavs-Nets tickets.

And the Celtics probably won't jump ship and start over if they contend for the 8 seed, Ainge is stubborn as fuck and Stevens is ever hopeful

If he can stay healthy. And it is a HUGE if. I think Gordan is one of the best SGs in the league. But he is never healthy. That's pretty much the entire team. Jrue is so good when healthy. Anderson. We pushed GS to some close games and half the team was out or playing hurt. Anderson and Gordon fit better in AG's system than anyone else on the team. But Ryno is a fucking turnstile on D. Ugh. Should be a fun season. And yeah, I preferred Voodoo to Pels. But it is growing on me.

Golden State on the other hand. Never injured. They have magic mojo. I hope AG brings that no injury mojo with him.

In 2012 when Eric Gordon signed the offer with Phoenix, I thought he & Dragic would get 50 wins that year under Gentry. The Hornets matched and Gordon stay put, leading to the Suns last place season and Gentry's firing. Then the Suns got Bledsoe and became the 49 win team I expected the year prior, Dragic made the 3rd team All NBA and won MIP 2013-14. I digress.
Phoenix is famed for having the finest medical staff to keep guys from getting injured...but with the benefit of hindsight, even they would struggle to keep E.Gordon healthy. I expect Gentry to be a catalyst and the Pels to be the 2013-2014 under Jeff Hornacek...only they'll make the playoffs. Again. Suns were my favorite League Pass team that year, Hawks were last year. I suspect it will be between the Pels & Heat this year...with the Bucks right there. I expect them to be beastly.

Warriors and Cavs both are going to be fun to watch. I'm going to watch so many Wolves games too. That young squad is going to be interesting.

It's incredible how much of a turnaround their current medical staff has overseen. They just fired their head athletic trainer and I believe promoted one of the assistants, and I am curious to see how this continues because they've had not only a very good strength & conditioning/medical program, but also incredible luck the last couple years. But they seem to have a really strong approach of preseason evaluation to flag for movement dysfunction, and giving each athlete individualized corrective exercise programs to prevent injury throughout the season, and then this wearable technology (during practices) that gives them data on how each athlete is holding up. It was recently covered on Grantland but basically it measures how each athlete is moving and warns you if they are fatiguing or if one limb appears to have an injury that they are favoring. They pulled Steph and Klay from practices last year to allow them significant physical rest. More and more teams are using similar systems that they may or may not rely too much on (using only the data to determine rest/minutes caps and not interfering in any other way before injury). It's a really forward thinking approach and I'm really curious to see more about it.
