There are a few examples of doom that I love like this great song from the butthole surfers

Fuck I love that album.

But I am really tired of the doom scene. 80% of my metal friends have moved on to doom over the past few years. Ive grown tired of it. There are great sluggish songs out there but daym nigga.

You know what doesnt get old to my ears? "noise rock." Varied tempos, feedback, oscillation, squeals. Noise motherfucker, Im bout it.

I mean, honestly, aside from Harvey Milk and Thou, I haven't been really that into anything that is specifically labeled "doom". the modern screamo scene is awesome, there's a bunch of sludgey punk bands, and noise shit locally, and I just feel that most of the bands that firmly sound "doom" are fucking boring as shit. The moment Stoner Rock got slow and not riff laden, shit just went way downhill. PLUS, as far as playing music goes, slow tempos are fucking boring for the most part.

What I do love is the gear all these fucking bands are making so goddamned expensive. I JUST WANT SUNN SS AMPS FROM THE 70'S OKAY FUCKERS?

It's a cycle and most of yall weren't cognizant enough in the early 90's to watch Grunge and Rave raise the price on anything MUFF, MUSTANG, or MOOG to outrageous levels so there's that... Cycles man Cycles... Look around for the shit now that you don't think is worth nothing or stuff that gets discontinued and blown out and fill a closet up and come back in 15-20 years... Doom guys just want shit that works and is solid and for a long time people puked on Sunn, Peavey, Ampeg, Kramer, Ric and that's what was cheap in Pawn Shops so dirty ass broke Stoner Doomers that work minimum wage jobs could afford it...

Buy some modern cheap neglected stuff and start your own future genre of the minute...

QFT!

I post in the doom room all the time, Totally feel like those are my people. Do I feel like my band is "doom"? Not really. I like good gear thats sounds killer, isn't more complicated than it needs to be, I can probably fix myself and in some instances was used to record some of my favorite music ever.
Sunn O)))? can be interesting but yeah, kinda boring. :idk:
Why get hung up on genres or what other people are doing? I just want to play music that is heavy as fuck, has it's spacey psychedelic moments and no artificial boundaries cause I'm worried it's not DOOM enough. I think the labels a but silly tbh but I love the freedom it represents to me.
When I got into the doom stoner thing it was kinda a revelation. You mean I don't have to play faster more technical parts that sound like flight of the bumblebees on meth while some singer dude tries to gargle cement so he can outdo what came before? Fucking A, sign me up.
I've found that in being free from trying to break new ground, and just trying to make good music that satisfies me, I end up breaking new ground, at least for me personally.
Ok, that sounds nonsensical and I'm rambling, a bit buzzed and still wide awake from last nights show at 5 in the morning.
Fuck it. Call my stuff DOOM, or happy pixie stardust funtime Corpse chanting. DGAF Last night I had people tell me we sounded like meshuggah, black sabbath, floyd, "real good old stuff" and "what the fuck just happened" Didn't see the resemblance but the fact that they liked it and were excited enough about it to want to talk to us and tell us what they thought was cool in my book.
:doom:

someone says doom, someone says stoner, sludge, whatever i don't care... it's heavy music, it's riffs and sometimes i need that :)

i can see the appeal, but what bothers me are the people who think they deserve a special fucking gold star for the pose

yet, those have nothing to do with the genre itself... those can be found pretty much in every genre there is ;)

I am ironically listening to the quad pressing of "Paranoid" right now.

Almost time to flip to side B.

It's not doom enough though, "Planet Caravan" has depth and space and warbly shit.

Stalaggh and Gulaggh are insane. I've listened to their albums so many times. They are up there with Diagnose: Lebensgefahr (side-project of Nattramn from Silencer).

"Misanthropik Nihilistik Audio-Terrror" is basically the type of "music" I want to create. As someone who is both misanthropic and nihilstic, it intrigues me to no end. I love taking music to its boundaries to see what I can come up with. I mean, right now my band is a pretty typical crust/grind band, but I would love to start recording something a little more extreme.
