fungalattack wrote:have you seen anthrophagous? it is another d'amato flick, so is porno holocaust. And I recently watched porno holocaust because it combines porn and gore but it turned out to be very very minimal gore and just a really bad porno.

YOU ACTUALLY WATCHED IT? From the title to the credits?

Crazy son of a bee, I couldn't, it was plain too BAD and way too boring for me. It could have been outrageously repulsive (s)exploitation but it's
one of those D'amato movies. Most of his movies seem to be.
D'amato directed also
Erotic Nights of the Living Dead (Le notti erotiche dei morti viventi 1980) which is supposed to be a lot better: a slow soft core erotic movie in the 70's best style with
good music to go with that. You know, people having casual sex, travelling leisurery and having more casual sex, chatting and having sex. Just not quite as good as many other of the genre. The main point is to see Laura Gemser shaking her stuff and the very simple plot key points are presented along the way. And then there's some gore and zombies towards the end. According to what I've heard and read. I'd really like to see this.

Anthropophagus... is the golden D'amato film, his main claim for the fame.
D'amato crossed the line of good taste and decency in the movie rating boards' opinion when his cannibal murderer bited into a fetus he dug out from the very unluckily pregnant mother.

Yep, this is those
unredemable 80's OG video nasties.

...but It ISN'T however the goriest piece seen on the screen. But compared to - say - teen slasher movies, where a seemingly invinsible murderer lays to waste everybody on the screen one by one... it's simply much darker and more nihilistic.
The movie could have been better, though, with a better production budget and ...just a few more work days thinking over the details of the plot. The first murders are tacky, filmed apparently without ANY budget at all.

and I suppose it was done afterwards when all money was already spent and the sense of drama demanded a murder after the titles. When the movies get's going it does get better. And eventually, after all the cheap nasty thrills, I find the undertone and the gory finalé untypically ...poetic to D'amato. As if he had called in the last minute to a fellow director that actually has talent, not only guts (pun intended).
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand here You go:

IMHO it isn't somehow half as good/nasty/offensive as Buio Omega... but maybe I just bond more with necro stuff than with the cannibalism. And Goblin.

Anthropophagus still was entertaining enough to keep me from FFWD button. Both times I watched it. Unlike the absolutely indifferent and pretentious remake.
