Yes, I am the bass player, and yes, this is my pedalboard.

And I believe Aen once said something to the effect of "no, Christian Acoustic Soundguy, you will not DI the bass amp, we Mic it for a reason."

Most of the time when I'm running sound I will ask the bass player if he/she wants to use the direct out on the head, a DI box, or have me mic the cab. I'd say 5 out of 10 bass players look at me like I'm crazy when I mention mic-ing the cab because "why would you do that when there is a perfectly good direct out on the head?" 4 out of the 10 have no idea and leave the decision up to me and the last 1 out of 10 wants their cab mic'd.

This does not surprise me, most bass players do seem fine with going direct out of the head, and I think most soundguys find this to be easiest for them as well, but Aen (at least I think it was him) told us that his bassist consistently had to fight with soundguys to be able to use a Mic. He said they eventually just started telling them that the amps direct out was broken.

You seem to be one of the few who allow the bass player to make their own decision.

And not to stand on my soundguy soapbox or anything but really the soundguy is there FOR the band and not the other way around. Yes, you are using my stage and my equipment and it should be treated with respect. And yes, if I see something that, in my experience, just won't work OR would work better another way, I'll suggest it. But in the end if the bass player says "I want you to mic my cab" or even "I want you to mic it and run a line from the direct out"... as long as I have enough working cables (which is always questionable in our venue) I'll do whatever the band wants. Now if I get everything plugged in for the mic & direct out guy and the DI line sounds like shit I'll just remove it from the mix... he doesn't need to know. My job is to take what the band gives me and make it sound as close to what they'd want it to sound like as possible.

(edit) Also, I think part of my mentality comes from the fact that I was a musician and playing in bands before I started running sound so I've worked with my share of asshat soundguys who treat the band as an annoyance in their otherwise perfect life. So as long as the band treats me with respect I'll do the best possible job I can. If the band starts off the night questioning my qualifications and constantly critiquing an otherwise fine sounding mix then screw them. I'll get the mix set to where I'm happy with it then I'm grabbing a drink. Oh, and band member's friends/family members/significant others who decide that it's their job to tell me that so-and-so instrument isn't loud enough can go to hell. (/edit)

Never spend more than $150 on anything that doesn't make dying cat noises.

This isn't limited to gear.
I want a giant bunny and I want a bunch of regular bunnies and they will form a hive mind and the giant bunny will be the queen bunny and they will attack in swarms.
