My favorite has always been the 22b. I agree with Joe,...Subaru has been jumping the shark the last couple of years. The only car in their current lineup I would consider buying is a Forrester. The Legacys (Outback or otherwise) and Imprezas (STi or otherwise) look like shit to me.
Not that excited about Subaru's design direction in the last ten years...but mainstreaming is sure as hell working for them in increased sales. I bought a bug-eye '03 WRX after I graduated college, now have an '07 (last of that gen) that I snapped up at end of model year after the redesigned '08s were revealed to be fugly. They fixed a lot of the things I didn't like about them in the last couple of years though, I'd totally buy a hatchback '12. New full redesign right around the corner too, so we'll see how that goes.
I like Evos too, but the rest of Mitsu's line has been garbage for the last ten years. Styling stuff aside, the Impreza, Forester, and Legacy/Outback are all well-reviewed and high-quality cars, where the Evo is the halo hovering over the turd that is the rest of Mitsubishi. Beyond that, I wouldn't buy an Evo for the same reason as I wouldn't buy a STi - $35K is more than I'd drop on a hot-rodded econobox - and Mitsu has no competition for the "regular" WRX.
And the new BRZ is going to be badass...once Subie rolls out the inevitable turbo'd hotrod version.
