dude, something shitty that happened to you (and i'm sorry that happened to you because that shouldn't happen to anyone) doesn't mean much on a macro level. is that a general occurrence for white youths?
these aren't leftover misconceptions. we still have tons of 'problems over color' (what a fucking reductive phrase) but it's definitely not because i don't think white people don't understand blackness. you've got it backwards, dude.
and as trite as it sounds, growing up in Cali i have a LOT of black friends. and asian friends. and hispanic and arabic and whatever. and NONE OF US FUCKING CARE.
as trite as it sounds is the new NOT RACIST BUT.
you think your friends of color speak for all people of color, all black people?

no i don't think they speak for all people. but that's the same as saying what YOU'RE saying works for every black person. i can point out as many black folks that give a fuck if Nia is used ironically as that would think it was the worst thing ever.
and yeah, actually. growing up it could be your ass on a daily basis just for being white. drop the sanctimonious PC liberal bullshit and pay attention to what goes on in the real world. again, no offense to you as a person, but all that smacks of OH POOR LITTLE DOWNTRODDEN BLACK PEOPLE. we've moved way on from that as a people. at least that's my experience. hence, the power of certain words SHOULD be robbed by now.
'fuck did you grow up?

So, some ILF members are offended and some aren't. Whether those members should or shouldn't be offended is academic. A joke that is offensive to ILF members is an asshole move, and not being an asshole is the main rule.

see, the 'inner city ghetto culture' thing is the 'small minded, ignorant racist idea about black culture.' that's why in a comedic context 'n*gga' fails. it fails in every context we could ever use it in here at ilovefuzz.com.
in another thread re: fat girl jokes i said "like, sure it's 'just a joke,' but why is it a joke? jokes reflect real opinions, sets of behaviors, prejudices." and this is kind of the perfect example of the reasoning that i'm talking about.
no, i disagree. There is a certain culture, with a certain way of speaking. Most of the members of this culture happen to be black. It is a culture and style that has its roots in the "ghettos" of urban areas. This style and culture includes a propensity for using the "N-word" in what I personally feel (as a dumb white guy who grew up in the suburbs, mind you) is an empowering and positive way. The use of the word in that context is part of the identity of that culture. I do not have a big problem with that culture, maybe some do. The small minded idea is that this culture, this style is somehow "bad". Denying the positive use of this word in the context of that culture is like saying they are wrong to express themselves in that way.
it is the juxtaposition of two wildly different cultures that makes the picture funny. Its like seeing a picture of your sweet old grandmother riding her harley to the biker bar, where a bunch of burly biker dudes are baking cookies for her. It plays on certain preconceptions about different cultures of people, yes, but it does not necessarily paint one or the other as "bad"; it is up to the viewer to do that for themselves.
As for me, when i look at the picture, my preconception is of a yuppy whitebread rich trophy wife trying to be all "cool" or "gangsta" really i should find it more offensive to rich white ladies than black people, because i hate yuppie scum.

Kinda late to this discussion, but...
Speaking as a forum mod myself, I'm guessing that the fuss over @ HCFX is basically the 'better safe than sorry/proactive vs reactive' thingy - guaranteed that here is someone out there that will not understand the context of a particular word/expression/whatever and take it to be a literal 'yes, I f'ing MEAN it' statement. Certain things just don't translate well via a forum (that's why God invented smilies, right?), and unless EVERYONE in the WHOLE UNIVERSE understands where the OP is coming from (as in...doesn't really mean it, just funnin', etc), someone will take it literally, get their panties in a big tight knot, and attempt to shut the whole thing down. It's happened before.
And FWIW...I too find the N-word generically offensive, but I also understand that it can be used in a non-racist form on occasion. Gotta be careful where and how, tho...

because nothing that happens to white people is EVER as damaging as ANYTHING that happens to "people of color." and that's NOT racist. (/sarc OFF)

What stereotypes about white people are damaging?
I don't necessarily agree that black stereotypes are ALWAYS damaging, but I could see how an historically oppressed people could suffer a disparate impact from racial stereotypes than other groups that have not been historically oppressed. Especially since there is still a surprisingly large amount of people in this country that ARE still virulently racist (quite a few family-members-in-law of mine, for example) against black people (and hispanics for that matter)
