Preacher is essential, one of the all time greats. It was the backbone of Vertigo in their early days, along with Sandman and Hellblazer. I know there has always been buzz about making it into a movie or an HBO series, but I hope it never happens, it would never be able to measure up.
There is a LOT of great Batman stuff out there. I tend to prefer the specials and miniseries over the regular monthly stuff, though I did once collect the monthlies, when Kelly Jones was doing the art:

Legends of the Dark Knight has produced some classics too, as it's basically one different batman miniseries after another. Issues 192-196 (aka "Snow") were illustrated by the late great Seth Fisher, who had a beautiful style influenced by the likes of Moebius and Geoff Darrow:

Alan Moore is required reading if you want to experience the best the medium has to offer. I like Miracleman better then Watchmen, and the Swamp Thing run is also legendary.
My favorite Warren Ellis stuff is Stormwatch 37-50, and the first chunk of the Authority. That stretch is what legitimized Image as a company, IMHO.
I've been way into comics since I was a kid, but have trailed off bit by bit over the last several years. I'm making an effort now to get all the way back into it. I just read the entire Alias series and loved it, looking forward to exploring more Bendis. I'll definitely be reading Y the Last Man soon, and the Walking Dead.

You'll have to download it to get it all (

). Todd Mcfarlane has owned the rights for several years now, and he just sits on it. He's probably forgotten about it by now. Issue 15 is
extremely rare and hard to find, it took me several years across several states to find a copy back in the 90s. A friend gave me a fucking xeroxed copy, which I later mailed to another friend, that got us through those dark days before scanning and filesharing.
I finished The Pulse (post-Alias series) and am well into Powers now, really loving it. Don't know why it took me so long to get to this series, it definitely lives up to all the hype and awards.

Ok, so I just started reading Moore's Miracleman. It seems like way too bright and campy so far... especially for a Moore comic...
Is like a twist coming up or something? There's no way it can be just this.
EDIT: Ok, seems like it may be turning around...
EDIT2: Ok, now we're getting somewhere. I was worried for a bit.

I'm going to start on Lost Girls soon. I love Alan Moore and I need to take a little break from Dante's Inferno.
Does that almost count as a graphic novel? My version doesn't have Doré's artwork, but if it did... I'd say yes.

Anything from Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Frank Miller or Grant Morrison. But they have been alredy mentioned.
My favorite is Batman:Arkham Asylum.
BTW I'll have to check Seth Fisher's work

Finally read the complete Ultimate Wolverine Vs. Hulk miniseries (6 issues). I remember being really stoked for this when the first couple of issues came out, but then there were huge delays and it disappeared for a couple of years or so, so I forgot about it. How could they leave the readers hanging like that after something like this?
Crazy.

Okay, so I've just been pulled into the ongoing series Saga.
This is my first foray into a current series, and I was wondering what other non-superhero series running now (or that I could catch up on) would be worth jumping on.
Thinking about Multiple Warheads and Happy, but they are miniseries.
