Martyrs takes the aproach and (oddly enough) restraint that made the first Saw movie a really interesting story that had a lot of graphic violence, instead of how all the following ones had a boring, contrived or just not really there story and tried to be more violent or gross or shocking than the previous movie in the series. very silly.

Martyrs DOES have some hard to watch scenes if violence bothers you, but it's a damn giid movie. i'm not really bothered by graphic scenes of violence. usually it's so over the top that it's more funny than disgusting. rape scenes are the things that make me uncomfortable if they're realistic. i like Irreversible, and it's an interesting discussion on how far people will go, and what makes you feel like where is too far, but the rape scene is.... hard. it's like 8 minutes and one of the most real feeling ones i've seen outside of Rape Play Porn.

i was kinda bored with Frontier(s). felt like they just got done watching 28 Days Later (looove that movie. Cillian Murphy? rarrrrr. Cillina Murphy all dolled up in Peacock? RARRRRRR!) and Saw. it was... a'ight.

i have to say i don't really LIKE the whole exploitation scene we're partially discussing here (Martyrs, Serbian Film, Inside... mentioning those i've seen), but i find it interesting. I just don't really enjoy movies that are just about violence and sorry, but those i mentioned really seem like they are...

but as i said - i find them interesting because i'm a human being and human beings apparently sometimes need good old ultra violence

oh and the Irreversible rape scene is one of the most horrible and chilling things i've ever seen... because it's so real and can happen any time anywhere to anyone you know

In total agreement about Saw and it's sequels.

Ah, things that get me are bones breaking, rape scenes, fucking ANYTHING involving the Achilles tendon. In Martyrs, I think it's the degradation parts I've heard about that worry me.

By the by, this shit never bothered me until I saw 'Cannibal Holocaust'.

ALSO LOVE 28 Days later. Brendan Gleeson is a fucking national treasure.

Antonioni actually only used bits of PF on the soundtrack...PF (among other artists!) did a full score which he rejected because he didn't think it fit the feeling he wanted, and wound up using only three PF tracks along with a variety of other stuff including old-time country music, California acid-folk bands like the Youngbloods and Kaleidoscope, John Fahey, and quite possibly the single loveliest piece of solo playing Jerry Garcia ever did. there's a full CD of rejected PF soundtrack material that circulates in the trading/downloading market, and outtakes of the PF and Garcia recordings appear on the CD release of the soundtrack. fun trivia fact: "Us and Them" was originally one of the Zabriskie Point soundtrack compositions, known to PF fans in its early incarnation under its running title "The Violence Sequence."

David Fricke on the Zabriskie Point soundtrack; the article also gives you an overview of just what a peculiar motherfucker the film is.

That movie...

Seriously, I didn't know if I wanted to laugh at stupidity or just go unleash blind fury in the middle of a city.

Oh and Fear and Loathing is an excellent movie and book...

Edit: After watching the youtube clip again since it's been a while since I last watched it... It just makes me want to punch people.

You know, having lived on a farm and having raised animals that were for our dinner purposes, animal deaths still get to me, but not that much. But in this film it was seriously unneeded and only there for the shock value of it. The rest of the deaths and mutilations just became so stupidly sickening that I skipped the movie ahead. Then the story sucked and was pointlessly typical.

Supposedly some of the mutilations were done on real dead bodies though, which as a human being kinda makes me wonder how it wasn't considered a snuff film.
