plugs do heal up inconspicuously as long as you don't go above a size 2 or 0. once you take them out they shrink back to pretty much nothing in a few days.

The idea of tattoos and piercings isn't that they could be easily brushed under the mat when time goes by. They are supposed to represent You by reminding YOu where YOu come from. Yeah, even in the daddy age. That's the whole point in it. Ask any biker or tattoo artist.

Besides: You probably didn't mean it that way but SOME of us are NOT born yesterday. :hello: And the amount of tattoos, piercings and body mods are not necessarily getting any fewer. Ask anybody in my bands. You don't think rock 'n roll subcultures is a passing stage of the Youth, do You? No You don't. That's what I thought, too. :whateva:   Please.

My parents were convinced in the 80's that my heavy metal enthusiasm was just a phase and that the horrible noise would cease to exist all together in a few years like all trends, becoming a future laughing stock like the clothing and music of the 70's.

Now look what has happened to the 70's clothing. And music. And the heavy metal, and the rest of the 80's music. And the tattoos and piercing etc. Yeah.

If you do get piercings, be sure to not only take good care of them, but watch out for problems. When I was younger I had my labret and my eyebrow pierced. My labret started rubbing on my gums and wearing them down, and when I got it switched to a smaller gauge it just started swelling up and looking infected, so I took it out. I've heard bad stories of labret piercings rubbing on gums so bad that people needed skin grafts. And my eyebrow piercing was fine for years, but I got punched in the face and it swelled up and started oozing out some nasty looking pus, so I took it out too.

And yeah, I took damn good care of my piercings, but if problems crop up make sure you don't ignore them.

Throwing this out there.
If you suspect a piercing is infected, do not take it out.
The hole will close and trap the infection inside and make it much harder to treat.

I'm not talking about any ole piercing or tattoo, just plugs specifically can make your earlobes look like tiny anuses if you change your mind. And whole sleeve tattoos of your favorite death metal bands can possibly preclude you from that job at the stock exchange. Just fair warning.

I agree with all that.

Also, tiny little butthole earlobes. I think both points are important.

I had a friend who got a PA, and I'm pretty sure he got it JUST to show it to people that didn't want to see it.

Note: HAD a friend.

FWIW - The TLR design hasn't changed much since it works very well to begin with...a definite example of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', and they're still cheap'ish given the format, etc.

Why do you need a med. format to begin with? Used pro-level 35mm SLRs are around for dirt cheap - Nikon F2AS body for $120 or so, 50mm f/1.4 lens for $85, etc...I picked up a Nikon FM w/50mm f/1.2 and 28mm f/2.8 for $220 out the door a couple of years ago.

Why don't you ask the professor what they'd recommend?

I think the Yashika TLR is the k1000 of medium format. :idk:

Unless you really NEED the flexibility of the much-pricier Mamiya, etc SLRs, I'd suggest getting either a Mamiya or Rollei TLR...bulletproof and easy to find.
