Before ILF:
Image

This was right after I had discovered I liked fuzz.

Then i went through a phase RIGHT before ILF and sold all my fuzz and didn't want to own a single one.

This is after ILF:

Took me awhile to find all these. Probably not as interesting as others, as I've never really had extra $$ to spend on boutique gear. I've always been going for an alt-country, (classic) rock and blues tone. I've also always been limited by living in dorms or apartments in which I couldn't have a big tube amp.

Living in the dorms:
Image
Korg AX-something modeling pedal, Arion Metal Master (shred leads, noisy as f*ck), Ernie Ball Vol Jr and a home made switcher for the Korg.

Got a Tone Jam-modified Sparkle Drive and EQ7 with the "sniper" mods:
Image
Someone gave me the Small Clone & Bassballs, as well.

Then I started building pedal kits:
Image
BYOC Triboost

There's a bunch missing that I can't find between the last pic and the next one.

After I moved, and was doing RPM Challenge 2009:
Image
It was about this time that I started thinking that I needed a pedal board.
What everything is is outlined here, if you're really curious: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattgauger/3242041104/

Image

After these images I had a pretty nasty fall off my bike and couldn't use my right arm for anything, including playing guitar. Then I moved again.

More recent stuff, 2011:
Image
Time for a pedal board!

I finished the board and got a Vox wah:

No pics of all the pedals on the board yet.

I need a lot more fuzz. And a nice amp.

How are you liking your artec analog delay? I'm really loving the way the repeats decay, they're like cold echoes in space instead of warm echoes off canyon walls.

It's fun, and the oscillation is cool too. It doesn't quite sound like a DMM or a Sunny Day Delay at all, which is what makes it neat.

Honestly, I don't use much delay in my playing. I don't know if I need to spend some time trying to sound like a particular indie song or The Edge or whatever, but I just never use it. Getting the time on the delays right always seems like a chore.

For a long time I've been building a second board with a bunch of little noise makers (contact mics, noise sample boxes, Thingamagoop, synths) and modulation effects. I think the Artec is going to make the jump to that board, along with the Bassballs and the Dano Corned Beef reverb.

I never get the timing right on my delays, I either like them relatively long or relatively short irregardless of song tempo. It never sounds quite right rhythmically, but I've never had use for specifically timed delays.

The closest thing I have to a noise setup is my circuit bent casio vl-1 into my homemade multi-pedal featuring an artec delay. The artec works for the noisy stuff I do sometimes, and with a bassballs and that dano corned beef reverb you could probably get some really interesting noise.

I have an 80's Casio keyboard that's not really a good candidate for mods, but that will be mounted to the noise rig, too. I've got about 4-5 pedals to play with on the noise rig. This week I started making plans to mount it all on one of these so I can stop playing guitar and just reach over to play the noise: Image

I may mount my 9" Dell netbook on there for sampling & other badassery. Dunno yet.

Well, there's pretty much no way I can compete with some of the awesomeness in this thread....nevermind the fact that I don't have pictures of my earlier setups....but so it goes.

Started about as simple as can get, with a RAT2. At this point I was playing bass and drums, and just dabbling in guitar.

Quickly acquired a cheap danelectro PB&J delay. Those two pedals were pretty much all I had for years. Went back to bass/drums.

Decided to get back into guitar some years later. Got a Muff, Digiverb, Dano French Toast trem, cheapo Behringer trem. For the time I was happy.

Started playing more shoegaze and noise.....bought my first "expensive" pedal in a Boss RE-20....discovered the wonderful world of message boards and somewhere along the line found ILF (which I lurked for ages before registering and finally posting). Discovered what people were going on about with all the 'boutique' pedals they would gush about. I guess from that point on I've nurtured an unhealthy case of GAS.....though constrained, at times, by budget of course.

Anyways terrible shot but my board now (note that the RAT2 and RE-20 have survived with me all these years):

In particular I have ILF to thank for the Snowdrift and RRR :)

I used to have a vert sem. While I do miss the simplicity and small form the new one is awesome.

Besides the fancy stuff like new waveforms/stereo out/tap, it really just sounds amazing.
The magical ears of teh kittycaster are at work again, he tells me there is a new totally discrete audio path (the old sem had an opamp path).

Hmmm this is a tough decision ha. I'd like the stereo version, and it seems like it has enough going for it to justify the extra cost, but I don't know...
Would you say the audio path isn't very good on the standard semaphore, or just that the stereo one is better?

Oh it's a great --> greater situation for sure.
I had no complaints about the vert sem...the only reason I traded it was because I was offered a trade I couldn't refuse
