Lots of probes. That build has the highest win percentage of any I could find. Haven't tried it out myself yet though.

i got to gold 1v1 and diamond 4v4 but i still spend more time chatting and playing nexus wars and monobattles 
also the ppl in gold so far are superscrubs compared to the silvers i was playing before

I loved the shit out of SC1's multiplayer (Brood War included) and I'm considering getting SC2 but I feel I'm just going to get my ass whooped and get discouraged

You will. But it's fun. You get beat down, then you start watching Day9, and then you get better.
