I do enjoy JimmyM’s posts, especially in response to “you need at least 500 watts to gig”

There are a couple of others as well do their home work and quote their sources when posting.

Saw this thread title and thought it was an HT post in BS&T

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=684532

Any way I play Fenders into Ampegs cause I like how they feel and sound.

Best post ever about active basses
“One of them is the volume. The rest control a complex preamp designed to make the instrument sound like a passive Fender!”

Is the VT bass actually awesome? Or is it a bland sort-of-SVT distortion?

I've never used one. :(

I haven't used one. But the consensus over on Talkbass is that it is able to pretty damn perfectly emulate several ampeg amps. I think someone even did a blind test of the VT Bass versus their B15, and posted clips without saying which was which. But I could have hallucinated that entire thing. Or maybe it was with a different sansamp that someone did that.

I can tell you that the Leeds sound pretty damn exactly like an old Hiwatt.

Tech 21 is actually really good at what they do. Whether "what they do" is lame to you is a whole other question entirely.

Neither have I, and I've never really even GASsed for it. Well, maybe a little, once.

I only read BST and FX. I used to read luthier's corner to gawk at the sweet projects, but whatevs.

The rest of TB place is WAY stuck up. F that noise.

I haven’t tried one either.

JimmyM posted in one of the threads that he did an AB of it and was impressed.

I also understand that Barbers Lynden and the OLC Flipster are both spot on for the B-15 sound.

My friend bought a VT Bass to use for tapping on guitar, cuz it just brings forth gobs of warm mids that he wanted. But, I tried it on bass, and, although it sounded cool, it sounded kinda....meh. I immediately went back to my Rusty Box. Maybe I'm not a good person to ask....

Also, he no longer uses it, because he got his tube amp fixed, therefore warmth for days.

Sweet! Ive got a flipster and am all covered then. :thumb:

Too bad it (and all sansamps and the like I've tried) add that high-frequency hiss to the signal. Much worse than most fuzzes I've tried. :grumpy:

Most of the new character series pedals have a speaker sim switch, which rolls off the highs a bit, and tames that hiss.

WAIT. If you put both of those together, the entire TBFX forum will implode.

...wait isn't that what 85% of TBFX forumers have on their board anyway :picard:

I don't need to go into my hate for the BBM right? You all know how I feel about it right?

As for the VT I feel thus: I hate every clip I have hear of it, from my experience with the XXL and the the original sans amp [some one loaned me one once] I have no interest in Tech 21... So VT threads bore the crap out of me. Plus I stay away from bandwagons, usually when everyone gets all "oooo we can all be tone drones" I run the other way.

The VT never really interested me. I'd rather lug around an all tube amp and honestly the only reason I am even remotely interested in tubes is to see how they interact with my Fuzzes.
