Haven't bought a guitar in, gods, 7-8 years.
Open box Epi Modern to go with my pair of "Pre-modern" Gibson Les Pauls. Of course it's purple.
Replaced the shitty (as always, Epi knobs suck) rubbery Epi knobs for speed knobs. Other than that, punches well above its weight.
Is it as good as my Gibsons? No, but it's also purple and 90% there.

The above-basement-tier Epiphones now are pretty good without footing the $1000 plus Inspired-by-Custom-Shop money. The worst I’ve encountered since 2020 is unpolished frets feeling a bit gritty. Hell, even the stock Alnico Classic Pro humbuckers in my LP are good enough to have stayed in the couple of years I’ve had it. I swear, it’s a better instrument than the entry level Gibson Lp Studio and SG my brother and I had from the 80s and early 90s.

my 00s ‘61 SG with the Maestro Vibrola was a good guitar when i bought it, but if you look at my project guitars thread you’ll see how much better the hardware i bought for it from a Bonamassa 335 is than the 20-year-old stuff. better machining on the claw, better engraving on the plate, better printing on the knobs. the demo i saw of the IBG guitars astonished me.

Yea, the Modern is in a weird place, it's like the 'original' inspired by gibson stuff that had an Epi headstock - the fine print lists it as such on the site (and it's a copy of the Gibson Modern, which is a lazier version of the High Performances I have).
And it's a pound lighter than my other ones, which aren't backbreakers at sub 9 pounds.
