What I did was kind of shitty, but going to different artists for different styles is completely acceptable.

my solar system is being done by the guy right next to the guy who did my last two, both in the same shop & buds. guy 1 actually suggested guy 2 because of it being realistic work instead of a chainsaw wielding polar bear, which i'll still be going back to guy 1 for. someday, once i'm ready on $ again after this sleeve costs me at least a few grand…

oof. f'realz. good artists are NOT cheap.

but i don't begrudge them a dime.

yeah I decided I wasn't going to start on sleeves until I could really afford to go all out on it. Dude who did the one I posted above was actually recommended by the dude I first went to see too, he was like 'I could do it but I think Nick is much better at this sort of style'. Good artists are generally good like that. They don't want their name attached to shitty work any more than you do.

Granted I am in Portland, but my office is covered in ink. I'd say 80% of our 50 person office has ink. Probably no less than 6 full sets of sleeves. We work with some major corporations. A few of the guys on staff have to tour occasionally with their bands and have the ink to go along with it all the way down their hands. We all make a decent enough of a living to take care of our families. No one has ever had an issue with the way we look.

I've been in my current place for nearly three years. No one even knows I have tattoos. I wear a suit every day and will never get anything that would be visible with it on.

that scenario does depend on where you are & what you do. i work in what's IMO a really boring, lame town, despite it technically being a city. there's sort of a big separation there between people's income levels & such. also IMO it's baffling how there's jack shit for entertainment there. anyway, a lot of it is old school. including its people. including my dad, who's also my boss at my fam's collision & automotive businesses w/ 35 employees. he did not like it at all when my sis started getting tattoos, which happened before i got into it. before i started my sleeve the last one i got is on my left inner wrist. he didn't like that much at all since it was fully exposed at the office when i wear short sleeves or push my sleeves up since our heat is stupid and thanks to remodelling my office is way hotter than the rest . i won't be surprised at all if he bitches about my sleeve and at least at first demands i wear long sleeves and cover it up at the office. he'll accept it eventually, but that's a dad scenario doubled up w/ the boss scenario. hell it'll take me a while to get used to it, one thing i'm glad about it being a gradual process instead of nothing being there one day and the entire thing being there the next...
