I haven't seen Prometheus yet.
Alien 3 is an undisputed piece of shit, though.

That's difficult enough that I'm not sure I can believe it.

Why? alien 3 set a path followed by two more even shittier alien movies plus the alien vs crab-face tripe… then it comes along.. has a great first 30 and then… it gets meh… then suck..

Resurrection is better than 3. AvP I and II are as well.

Yeah, I mean Rez isn't a work of art, but unlike 3 it doesn't suffer from not knowing what kind of movie it is (in addition to being terrible). It's tonally consistent, even if that tone is almost a beat-for-beat B-movie rewrite of Aliens.

that's a good way to put it

but the alien/human spawn thing at the end was a bit much.. it looked like a muppet… a new muppet

It's "curious-to-tear-your-face-off" body/expression shift is comic gold.

This. Alien 3 was an enjoyable film; it just had little to say about itself. Was it anywhere near as good as Alien? No, and neither was it as good as Aliens. But I think it was more entertaining and satisfying than Prometheus. I'd give Prometheus 3 stars and Alien III 3.5 stars. I have the Blu-ray collection of Alien movies and watched Prometheus, Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 all in a row. Prometheus was, to me, the worst of the bunch. I have yet to watch Alien Resurrection.

Out of how many stars?
and I'm not sure I'm following "little to say about itself."

There were parts that I dug about Prometheus (mainly involving Michael Fassbender), but man, it had some of the most unlikeable/idiotic characters of just about any sci-fi flick in recent memory. And I say that as a person who's willing to give popcorn movies and sci-fi flicks in particular a LOT of leeway.

Oh sorry, I forgot that.

Out of five.
