That looks amazing

Someday I'm going to pick one of these up and subject it to a massive pickup experiment. I'm thinking a bass vi with asat special mfd pups would sound legendary

I'm going straight AVRIs in mine (I like the sound of 'em)...
BUT

Pickup Wizzard (Peter)'s pickups are fantastic. Nicest guy ever!
Will chat with you and make suggestions (x infinity), until you figure out exactly what you want.
And then make it. Affordable, too.

Damn dude. That would for sure sound amazing. I wonder a hybrid bass / guitar pickup set would sound like in one of these? Maybe bass pickup for the neck or middle, guitar pickups for the remaining. Would be fun to experiment with that.

If I had the time, money, and skills I would consider buying a second Bass VI and installing some kind of bass pickup in the middle position with a stereo out.
That would be sick

So I have the chance to pick up a Pawn Shop Bass VI locally for $650...
Should I do it or wait for the Squier Bass VI I ordered? Or both?!

Play the one locally, if you like it, and can swing it, might as well.

The Squiers will be available in abundance someday, but at that price point, you can probably just swing it too then.

Played one in a shop today and I did like it a lot
But when it came time to email the guy and actually buy it I couldn't do it
I just kept thinking, I could buy the Pawn Shop or I could be patient and get the Squire + some fuzz
Plus I really like some of the stuff on Squier better, like the switches and strangle switch
Sooooo I ordered an AB-Synth XS+ and a Lab Ratchet and am going to be patient

Yea, don't get me wrong, I went through the same thing back in July except I couldn't play one locally.

The strangle switch for me was the dealbreaker, if it was on a push-pull pot or something and had the actual correct Jazz-bass control plate, I'd have gotten it.

Yea, the latter is petty but I hate the cheap looking one piece pickguard, I have one on my circa '94 Jazz Bass when Fender was being cheap and I keep meaning to replace it and the pickguard but now I don't play it enough thanks to the VI.

I would have told you to save some cash for fuzz when it arrives, it'll like different fuzzes than the rest of your gear most likely.

Mine likes some of my existing board but in different ways, and a couple things are just godawful. A couple ho-hum ones I keep around since I don't flip gear much are amazing with the VI though, so it balances out.

The missing Jazz-bass control plate was another dealbreaker for me too actually. The one-piece pickguard does look too cheap.
I don't know why Fender would drop that piece or the strangle switch
I also really wanted the three single coil pickups. The humbucker wouldn't have been a dealbreaker but still another negative.

And I'll just flip some gear later if it needs new fuzz or pedals

Kinda baffles me that Squier's looks better than Fender's. (Other than the block inlays, imo.)
The one-piece pickguard and the bridge pickup bother me the most, but yeah, the missing three-switch plate too.

I'm sure Fender has noticed that the Pawnshop version is in stock everywhere...

Yea, I don't like the block inlays myself but well, I don't care what it looks like as long as I can thump it.
