Dude, those first three records are perfect. I like most all of them but shit, that golden trifecta is hard to beat. My buddy Graham is J's guitar tech so I decided to meet up with him in NYC for the show they did for the 25th Anniversary of You're Living All Over Me and it ruled so hard. All the bill said was that there were going to be Johnny Marr and some very special guests so I'm thinking alright Marr will come out and maybe Lee Renaldo or something. Well Lee was there and sang Fury Little Things then they played YLAOM in its entirety. I'm thinking to myself, what a great show, completely forgot about these guests - then Frank Black comes out and plays a DJ song before DJ covers that Pixies tune Tame with Frank singing. Well that's cool, must be it for the guests. Nope, for the next 45 minutes tons of guests joined DJ on stage. Kyle Spence from Harvey Milk and Al Cisneros came on and off the stage as they pleased including a ten minute cover of a Neil Young song, Dale Crover, the aforementioned Johnny Marr, Kevin Drew from Broken Social Scene, Kim Gordon came out and sang/screamed the song Don't for about 10 minutes, Tommy Stinson from the Replacements, it was just stupidly awesome.

Awesome. They played a few UK shows recently, but nowhere close enough for me to watch them.

Totally one of my favourite bands. Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth have been playing a big part in my playing lately, and Pixies has been one of my favourites since I was about 12. Awesome.

Quoted for fact. I love that album as much still if not more than the day it was finished.
I love those guys to death and I've known Mike since Yob's demo days, but I still can't get into Atma or The Great Cessation.
That being said, Yob are at the top of their game as a live act. The last few times I've seen them have been the best out of the (almost)thirteen years I've been watching them.
Also, Nick, I want in on that first batch of HM-2s if they are not all already spoken for.

yea i will add you 2. Working out the kinks in it. The online schemes are all over the place

misterstomach wrote:i ordered a bunch of sets from naked strings but found myself overly irritated with the packaging. all the strings of one size come bound together, so you get six bundles of strings. you can't get out one string without undoing the whole bundle, then you have to wind them back up. or you can sit down when you get the strings and unbundle them all and make individual sets and package them yourself in a sensible way, which is also a pain in the ass. i know it's kind of the idea, no packaging and it's cheaper, but i eventually decided that even with how broke i always am, i'd rather pay an extra dollar or so a pack to save the headache. especially 'cause there wasn't anything special about them. they break just as much as other strings and i couldn't tell a sound difference. they also didn't have exactly the sizes i'm used to. i just play d'addario 13-56's. although i may try that set someone posted with the heavier bottom string if i can find them.

There's also the 12-60 D'addario set, Parker.

I have 5 sets of them right now, but now i'm moving out of the country so i guess i'll only try them in about 6 months, but everyone says they're top notch, with a good G and everything, so they might be worth taking a look at. however, that light baritone gauge seems perfect for LP type, etc., guitars tuned around B.

problem with me is i prefer steel strings and haven't found any around that gauge. i love D'addario Prosteels, but i wish they made them bigger.

Damn, that would have been some experience.

I don't actually wear much black that much, smoke weed, drink pints and pints of beer every day, or have long untamed hair. Come to think of it, I don't think many of the Doom Room members are like that.

THE DOOM ROOM IS NOT ITS OWN FORUM AND DOES NOT HELP FUND ILF. THE DOOM ROOM HAS 5783 MEMBERS AND COUNTING. I PRETEND TO BE AN OSCILLATING WIZARD OF SONIC DESTRUCTION WHEN I PRETEND TO SMOKE WEED...

it was a day to remember the first time i listed to it on the bus to work...I've had a few of these days that I will always remember, it started when my brother and I watched Iron Maiden's Live after Death video (actual video cassette) early/mid 80's, then the next moment came when I listened to metallica's master of puppets in 87 whilst waiting to go into the dentist; then in about 91, in a lunch break listening to Deicide on a friends walkman...then the last time was listening to Opeth's Deliverance about 8 years ago...and now YOB...

I wonder how that came about.

It was really cool of them. Maybe they were just huge fans of them like we are.

This. YOB is tied with Neurosis for a band that just does some heavy, emotional work on me every single time I listen to/see them. Last time I saw them, they played The Great Cessation AND The Mental Tyrant. Powerful.
KHEMMIS. Doomed heavy metal. DECEIVER out 11/19/21 on Nuclear Blast.

GLACIAL TOMB. Misanthropic death/black/sludge. S/t debut out now on Gilead Media.

Good deals with: Ancient Astronaught, conky, crohny, D-Day, Corey Y, ryan summit, tons more here and on HCFX under this username

Catharsis is my favorite YOB record, although I will say that the unreal never lived is just as good. Atma has not really grabbed me yet as much as the older albums, but the other day a dude i was working with was playing it and i found myself really enjoying it.

Any Star Wars geeks in here? I got tattooed the other night and finally got a start in a Star Wars themed leg sleeve.
