Re: Let's see your PEDAL BOARD!
spent a bunch of time figuring things out and deciding where to go next. out of the stuff on the short list, the one that HAD to get done was a new power supply for the main board. i chose a Cioks bundle on Sweetwater that came with a free Tech21 Hiwatt-style amp-simulator pedal that could conceivably come in handy; a Voodoo Labs bundle would have been about the same without the freebie. spread it out over a year on Affirm, plan to catch it up when i have a bit more room. so that should be sorted by the end of the week. i really don't like paying $400 for a fucking power supply, but i can't deal with the flaws of the MXR DC Bricks any more. it's one slot short of the 16 i need, but i can run 2 fuzzes off one slot just fine.
i also spent way too much time trying to figure out if i could use the little 4-channel Boredbrain patch bay on the looping board only to find that it's not suited to what i want to do. i should probably quit with the clever expand-the-loop-board-functions shit because it just doesn't seem practical unless i actually went to a serious mixer which is too much additional fiddling for me.
still on the table are the MXR Layers, a Stomping Stones Haxan i found on Reverb, a 3-channel pedalboard mixer for the looper outputs, and a round-seated drum stool (i'm sorry, "throne" is dork-ass) that i car rotate on because the keyboard-style bench i currently have is difficult to move around on and pivot to the outer boards. listed in order of utility. i don't really "need" any of this shit, but it'd be useful/interesting. as is being back in a situation where i have to think, delay, and prioritize everything i do.
i discovered that theoretically i can run the system output straight into the DR-07 digital recorder via a 1/4'-1/8" adapter and monitor on headphones. which is to say i can start the recorder and then use the Loop Level control to fade the loop recordings in/out. i'm now at the point where i like the stuff i'm looping at home enough to start posting tracks again, so Bob's Neue Loopz should start going live shortly. i have one collage of ring modulator tones with various reverbs, delay, and other shit i don't remember, and a lovely thing i did with the electrified 12-string that hardly sounds like a 12er at all.

Re: Let's see your PEDAL BOARD!
OK, bud, you asked for it.
the Cioks modules fit nicely between the uppermost rails on the Pedaltrain. i wasn't expecting to have to rewire all the pedals to the PS because Cioks uses RCA connectors on the modules, but i went ahead and rationalized everything as much as i could. why do all the power supply makers give you too few short cables and too many 18" or longer? i always have to coil and tape the longer ones to they don't snag and make a mess, and i've never, ever needed a 24" power cable. i oriented the modules as shown so the power cord socket faces the same side that the AC cord for the TC flanger comes out of. took about two hours to put everything together. hopefully i won't have to fuck with it more for years. one cool thing is that they offer a patch cord for 24V EHX devices with that weird pin-and-blade jack so if i decide to keep the White Finger i can run it off the PS.
yes, the photo sucks. no, i don't care enough to reshoot it. i'm happy that it's neat and easy to figure out rather than being a fucking snake pit.

Re: Let's see your PEDAL BOARD!
the adapter to run the system into the DR-07 arrives today. i ordered the Saturnworks 3-channel mixer with switches and LEDs for each channel for the looping board and that should be here early next week. i'll move the current summing box to the input spot and put the mixer in the middle of the top tier. that'll give me the option of turning off a looper channel at the input or at the output. i can't think of much more functionality to add without it getting more complicated than i want to be right now.
having nothing much to do i just went back and read the last year or so's posts here and it was entertaining seeing how the boards changed before reaching their current forms. i hope i don't have to change too much from here on out. i'm looking at a Stomping Stones Haxan which could disrupt the fuzz section if i like it...it's quite bassy compared to most distortion/fuzzes which essentially act as high-pass filters. i'm pretty happy with the current setup tone-wise except the Buzzaround which is kind of toppy, but given that the rest of the fuzzes are fairly dark that could be a useful thing. if it replaced anything it'd be the Tone Bender which is now my bass-friendly mid/high gain fuzz.
i'm sort of looking forward to doing the Normie Board because there won't be anything to figure out. i know which devices i'm going to use, their order, and what i need for a power supply. the only pain should be having to get more short patch cables with 90° connectors. but i know where i'm going this time, not hunting for solutions i haven't found.

Re: Let's see your PEDAL BOARD!
i got everything wired up and ran the board through some tests. everything is working perfectly. i honestly am having a hard time getting used to a quiet system with no major noise problems with anything including the high-gain fuzz. i'm happy.

Re: Let's see your PEDAL BOARD!
My pedalboard is at present 100% RMA stuff, essentially gain boxes and ring modulation.

This is the set-up of the last show I played, at the beginning of this month. Sources are Akai MPC 2000xl, Emu Morpheus, Behringer Model D, and two tracks on an Akai DR4d recorded from my previous show (the other two tracks were for recording). These feed a Korg KMX122 line mixer, an Akai MB76 programmable matrix mixer and the pedal board.
The pedal board consists of an RMA Loom prototype, which is an 8 in 8 out matrix switch with addressing of switch positions derived from random noise generation (don't get excited, at present I'm confined to just eight states based on 000, 001, 010, 011, 100, 101, 110, and 111), it switches states when triggered from an MPC output. The switch reorients the following stuff: Four Mudlark mk 3, several implementations of the Tetanus Booster circuit (including a multiple output unit fed from the FX send of the KMX, and a box with four iterations splitting outputs to feed the MB76 and back into the fray), a Dirty Doper, and a few active "precision" diode ring modulators.

Re: Let's see your PEDAL BOARD!
the mixer for the loop board arrived yesterday. i got it wired up today and everything appears to be working well. i'm mildly amused that both the Saturnworks boxes have variations on the same meteors graphic. the striking thing about the mixer is that the box is like 2" tall. this is a good thing, though, because it means that i don't have to reach down quite so far.
the rest of the stuff, that being a Fjord Fuzz MIME reverb that'll go on the FEB and the replacement Demedash T-120, arrives tomorrow. so i'll only have to work on the FEB for these next things. i think i'm really close to being able to stop working on the big system...it's already good enough to give me stuff i can post. at this point i'm basically just fine-tuning.

This is the most my pedalboard's changed in years. It's mainly to make it easier to play quietly in an apartment.

Re: Let's see your PEDAL BOARD!
unfortunately the T-120 situation isn't working out. the replacement i ordered from Perfect Circuit has the same problem with interference on the FEB as its predecessor. to make matters weirder, they sent me a regular T-120 v2 rather than the Deluxe version i paid for and ordered. they're sorting it out, but i found it quite disconcerting that they fucked the order up. so now i need to find something else that does the dying-VHS sound, and so far i haven't found anything i like nearly as much. i'm going to fuck around with the FEB and see if i can find something in there that'll work...it's conceivable that the Shallow Water, LF7 Lo FI, and So High So Low filters could get in the ballpark.
