Yeah the longer you roast the more caffeine breaks down. I like medium and light roasts in my press but I prefer dark for the cold brew. Lighter roasts can turn out good but they're just a lot flatter it feels like. Closer to the brown water repoman accused me of drinking
You can get more caffeine from the same beans with cold brew though. You can steep for a really long time without getting that over extracted bitterness or acidity.
