well it really depends on what version of protools you are running. if you have PT8 at work with the 003 and you get a used mbox with a pt8 license for home, you'll be pretty good by yourself. if you want to start opening projects created in PT9 then your screwed. the good news is that if you own PT8, you can buy the PT9 upgrade way cheaper than you can buy PT9. and and AND you can load the PT9 license on the ilok instead of using the mbox as a dongle. that means you own one license for PT9 and you carry it with you on your keychain. you also dont have to buy that crappy mbox. PT9 is open so you can use it with ANY hardware. if its PT9, buy an ilok and a presonus audiobox. if you have the money, get a apogee duet for your mac. its a solid investment. the apogee cables are crap though. your gonna need the firewire cable replaced in the first month. that $500 duet will blow away the sound of the $1400 digi003 mic pre's. if you ever buy plugins that run on VST to RTAS adapters (everything released in VST format is vst native even in RTAS mode) you will be sacrificing a huge amount of performance. most professionals dont worry about it since they run some form of hardware accelerator with %100 native pluggins.

After three years of *WANT*, I have finally recieved a FoxRox Octron 2. These babies almost never turn up in the UK and the few I've seen have been around the £250 mark which was too much for me. Finally got one for (what I consider) a fair price. INDEPENDENT ANALOGUE OCTAVE SWITCHING FOR ME!!! I fucking love my MXR BOD, but this will hopefully push it off my board for the first time since I got it. Now all I have to do is sit at my desk at work for another 5 hours before I can get home and play with it...

It's gonna be a long 5 hours.

(oh, and I have a Subdecay Prometheus en route too, as soon as the seller posts it!)
