The original Dunwich Wizard had Delay and Verb built in, footswitchable too. I'd post a link but they've cranked down the McAffee site blocking at work.

Been after a Loucks for a long time now (HUGE YOUNG WIDOWS FAN!), just love that amp and it's insane versatility considering it's a pretty straight forward one channel design. Welp, after catching Young Widows live yet again last week and talking to Evan about his amps, I cracked and emailed Ben the following day to discuss a slight mash up with the Skyhammer since it seems super badass too. We got all the details figured out, 4-6 weeks and it should be at my doorstep, excited! Gonna run it with my Dunwich Metropolitan, should compliment one another nicely.

I was waiting for this moment. I knew you'd crack. The weight of Verellen's beard is too much for a mere mortal like you and I.

D-Day wrote:I thought today'd be a good to day to get out and about and post somewhere other than the Doom Room. This is my fancy amp. When you see it you'll think I must be rich but NO! My DR buddies all know the saga but I'll tell it again because this is a new forum for me. I live around the corner from Soldano and one of my bestest bros of all times is the guy who does their tolex and such. He let me borrow his SLO which has the depth mod. It was the best thing I ever played through in my life so I had to get one somehow. Well Mike gave me a bit of bro-down deal and also let me get on a payment plan. Because he's a saint! So I paid and paid for like a year or more. Then my finances went to shit and I couldn't pay for like six months. At the end of that six months we took a show with his band The Industry People. I was raging a mig100 and a Pharaoh at the time. So we blew that place up just like the rest and when we were done the first person to rush the stage all aglow was Mike. He said, "We need to get you that amp man! Come by the shop if you got time and we'll see about putting you to work.". So on Monday I went in and was assigned to build footswitches. I built like 115 of 'em or so and then there was no parts left so I got put on cutting pot shafts. After that I was allowed to install my transformers, tube sockets, etc and also build my super secret SRV mod board. Then it was left in the capable hands of one Don Blair (guy who builds most amps and all of the SLO's). Do I even have to say this thing is a beast from outer space?

I've never heard that story. I must have missed it in amongst the mist of noise and bromance.

Curiously, did you have the outer shell extended a little? It looks thicker than my old Soldano.

wfs1234 wrote:That is a great story, I'm glad it all worked out for you. I'm attempting a similar long-term amp deal, with either a custom Dunwich beast or a Verellen Meatsmoke at the end of the road.

It's great to see Nick's and Ben's work become so popular.

Yeah Dan, I think that's a Lucky head cab? Hot Rod? I forget but it's not an SLO cab for sure. I wanted it to be thick wall because my shoulders don't get sore enough lugging around a regular SLO. But seriously I wanted thick walls like an Orange head box. I think I was literally the first guy to get that grille cloth JCM style front too. In fact I know nobody's mimicked it down to the white piping like that.

Anywayz, here's my other amp from the neighborhood. Astroverb 16 with bossass porthole front. Sadly I paid full price for this. I mean it was 1000% worth it but it was costly, as you'd expect from Soldano. I've had it for almost six years now.

This might seem like an obvious question, but do you like the other Soldano amps as well? I've tried the Lucky 13 but was a little let down, and I've heard the Decatone isn't as good as the other amps in the line-up.

The only other Soldano amp I've played extensively is the 44. It's totally awesome. I want to try a Hot Rod 100+ and an Avenger. I've played both in the incubation room over there but that's like a fucking closet with bare walls. I want to borrow those things and try them for real. I hear great things about both, especially with pedals. I'm not interested in the others. I've played them all a little. They're for wimps and blues lawyers imo

I try and I try to talk him into making a dead clean hundred watter built to SLO standards of roadworthiness but he's not into it.

Also, the reason that there is no Soldano bass amp is because in his opinion (mine too!) the best rock n roll bass amp possible has already been done for years and there would seem to be little to no room to improve upon it. It is known as the SVT

You should definitely give the Avenger a try when you can. It's quite different than the SLO, even if it's been modified to have the same depth knob as the Avenger. Believe it or not but I felt more at home with the Avenger 50 I bought than the stock SLO I compared it against, but I haven't played one in four years, so my opinion might have changed.

Mark from Black Arts uses a modded epi valve jr to do all his pedal testing before they ship out. Currently runs it through a vert Emperor 2x12 and I've always been stunned how great that little amp sounds. Played it in person quite a few times now, never disappointed. :thumb:

My 2 kustoms, the cab on the right is currently being driven by the orange instead of the kustom head because it has some sort of grounding problem and shocks the fuck out of you.

Haha, not sure really... Some sort of lab/test dc amp, no musical purpose that I'm aware of, but sick looking and full of toobz! it came from the goodwill for like $6.

And thanks on the guitar! I'll post a better pic in the guitar section.
