Scandinavians aren't butch enough to do that.

Exactly. We are put in the same situation with NATO advancing through the EU towards Russia, most notably with the recent antimissile shield that was deployed in Poland in breach of previous pre EU treaties, that dates the German reunification. The Russians agreed to it the condition that NATO wouldn't expect to the west of the reunited Germany. The French agreed to it to the condition that Germany wouldn't contest the Oder-Neisse line.
I don't even understand why Sarkozy signed the French back in NATO. NATO has lost it's raison d'ĂȘtre since the cold war disappeared with the USSR. It's just a freaking unstoppable belligerent machine that cripples the UN at best, puts world peace in jeopardy at worst. And seriously, who think the Japanese make convincing members of a Northern Atlantic Treaties signed amongst "occidentals".
The geopolitics of the clash of civilizations is our collective doom, thanks Bush and thanks America
Edit: this is also why I'm completely not interested in who wins this shit show. Geopolitics command politics. It's clearly ingrained in all the American political spectrum that armed confrontation with Russia is inevitable. I just hope France will remain neutral in the matter and will work the ways of peace in the UN along with South American, African, and South Asian nations. The third world is, as usual, the only way towards peace.

That's my point. If the USA has no business being in Norway, why not pressure your government to have them removed? At the end of the day, it is your government who is allowing the USA to be there.

Geopolitics command politics. No alternative system of alliance is available to Norway.
Note that the situation is identical for France. Our historic alliances in Latin America, Russia, Africa and Asia are in jeopardy and precarious due to the US's destabilizing the equilibrium of all of these regions in order to put pressure on the non aligned friendlies... which is working tremendously.

Then maybe Norway should get a part time job, buy their own guns, and protect themselves.

Do you realize you are talking about 4 millions of people? Do you realize the US's military budget is superior to the Norwegian GDP by 20%? It's what alliances are for. France however, is more guilty of renouncement, because we have the means of independence on many account (that starts with nuclear dissuasion and the industrial capabilities to produce the entire arsenal for modern warfare, however it's not very trendy because budget cuts and deficit and debt and all that BS that comes with being part of the EU and the Euro, which proves again that geopolitics command politics).

Wait, wut? Are you sure you're thinking of me? I don't think I've really discussed my political views on here.

Mostly my memory is that you chime in with "shut the fuck up I want to like all of you" every once in a while and I draw my own conclusions based on the context.

Ah, fair enough. It's true that I do that from time to time, but mostly because I try to avoid talking politics with friends and people I like, because it never ends well.
