Tight I'll check em out! thanks for passing that along.
Hey man...what do you think of the clean? also...are you not using the matamp anymore?conky wrote:Did a little bit of a cosmetic upgrade on this 5150 that I just got. I fucked up and ordered 1 yard of tolex instead of two so i had to split it and join the seams on each side and I cut one end just a tad bit short. I think if it starts peeling I may either just redo it all together or take some black duct tape and tape the sides down. Not bad for my first time doing tolex if I say so, but if I had of ordered the length I needed it would have came out way better.

With some lower gain tubes and some fucking around with the eq you can get some pretty decent cleans from it. Nothing like Matamp cleans, but it isn't a sterile turd either. Makes a pretty good pedal platform. I'm not using the Matamp at the moment because it needs a retube. I noticed at practice that the sound was lacking so I put a spare set of matched tubes in it that didn't have many hours on them and during the first practice with them in it one of them started red plating. The ones that were in it were EL34L so I dunno if that had anything to do with it or not but I figured I'd play through the Soldano until I got it sorted out. Since getting this 5150 though I'm kinda wanting to run it in a dual rig with my Soldano and see how that sounds. One thing I have noticed is that my cab with 55hz Reapers sounds better than my other cabs because it knocks off that dog whistle harsh as fuck high end on the 5150.samzadgan wrote: Hey man...what do you think of the clean? also...are you not using the matamp anymore?
Soldano +5150 probably sounds awesome. I can say that the Dual Rectifier 5150 combo certainly sounds rad in a dual guitar rig.conky wrote:ShaolinLambKiller wrote:Tight I'll check em out! thanks for passing that along.![]()

Haven't played them side by side yet, (other than when Matt used to run one about a year and a half ago) but I can tell that they both are very close. the 5150 has a bit more low end but its also a lot brighter almost to the point of being harsh. The Soldano is clearer but I think it would sound great together. I love running the Matamp and Soldano together. I need to try it with the 5150 as soon as I retube the GTO. That pic you posted with the Mesa / 5150 setup is boner inducing.odontophobia wrote:Soldano +5150 probably sounds awesome. As a band we really struggled to find stuff that complimented one another. Once we got the Dual Rec and the 5150 together it just really clicked for us. As much as I love fuzz and fuzz sounding metal it's not really what we're playing right now so amp dirt suits us so well.conky wrote:Haven't played them side by side yet, (other than when Matt used to run one about a year and a half ago) but I can tell that they both are very close. the 5150 has a bit more low end but its also a lot brighter almost to the point of being harsh.
