Ten years ago, I came home from my father's funeral with his guitar and a few pedals. Kinda by accident that sent me down the path of making music — and happily that has lead to a lot of cool stuff happening. A lot of the music-making I've been doing recently has been collaborative, but this sticks to what I've managed to achieve on my own — mostly ambient, kinda noodly stuff with some (hopefully) inneresting textures but not too much on the abrasive side.

Anyway, here's some sounds for y'all, also tracking several years of gear development, much of which inspired by this space. So cheers!

This is great!

A friend asked me to put together some opening theme music for his podcast.

I made two versions of an Intro and an Outro.

For the Intro I started by silently repeating the name of the podcast in my head and trying to imagine what melody might match with that.
For the Outro I wanted it to convey a sense of regretfully feeling compelled to have to say goodbye to a friend because a lot of podcasts strike me as being sort of a version of listening (without direct participation) to a conversation with some friends.

While I was playing around with the Intro I came up with a tempo and rhythm guitar bit that was a bit different. This second version is the one he ended up using.

For the guitar and bass I used a Kuro Exegol plugged in direct to my H5 recorder as a preamp. For the "lead" guitar parts I think I used either a Montreal Assembly Your & You're or Basic Audio Marq Won or maybe a Green Ringer clone with the Exegol. I can't really remember.

The acoustic guitar was recorded using the built-in microphones on the Zoom H5.

In the first version the drums are just a canned pattern. For the "organ" I used a MIDI keyboard and sort of felt my way around—this required some going over and correcting gross mistakes.

For the second version I used the MIDI keyboard to hash out some gross "drums" too. Not perfect. But I think it conveys what it's supposed to.
