I think this pedal will kick ass.
I have no interest in syncing any pedals however. Everything ticking to its own time!!

mysteryroach wrote:So as someone who's in a learning stage at the mo and trying to put together a midi-heavy rig, and keeping all my time-based effects (i.e. modulation + delays) locked in the same beat - I got a (probably dumb) question:

If you have tempo controllable by midi, but no midi clock - does that mean that you can recall presets that change the rate of an effect, but you have no control over when the sample begins/ends? Is that the key distinction between tempo presets and clock-sync? I'm confused.

Just wondering if I can or can't get the pedal to sync exactly such that the beginning of the sample falls on the peak of my modulation effects. That is, by using midi to only change the tempo preset rather than needing to have midi clock feature available for this. Or (without midi clock) will there always be a "drift" that I simply have to live with? (unless corrected through fine-tuning as mentioned by DRodriguez).

Also, is midi-clock something that can be included later on through firmware updates? Or is that something that needs to be included in the hardware from the get-go?

Sorry for the noob questions. Likely gonna buy anyway if I can get my hands on one.
Midi sync inherently does nothing to an effect. Midi sync essentially send the exact beat info so that all your devices have the same tempo and have their beats all hit at the same time. There is a little drift sometimes, and that's why there are fancy devices to adjust midi timecode between devices. How an effect uses this is important. most delays will use that info to set the delay time but that could be done with only tempo preset as well. The cool thing that can be done with the more precise midi clock is it can time the modulations or panning to be exactly on beat. Like say have an autopanning delay and you want the pan to be all the way L on beat 1.

Midi sync is especially useful for loopers (particularly for DJs) because it will take that beat information and compensate for human mistiming. So if I hit the rec button a little early or a little late, it will then compensate and pretend I hit it exactly on the beat.

How am I just hearing about this? Where have I been?

I need to see a demo before really deciding, but this thing sounds amazing!

No demos out yet, coming very soon in a limited quantity. Being mtl.asm, it should sell rather rapidly.

Any last questions before I go back. leaving in like an hour.

Nah, he's on the booth directly across from mtl.asm. And on the booth next to chase bliss. That was my favorite area there.

Alright, played around with it some more, I can understand it enough to sort of get it to do cool thingd, but still far from knowing how to use it. This thing is going to be killer on drums though.

Based off the manual I think this might be a hell of a composition tool. I'm not sure how well it'll work for ambient/bedroom pop, but I sure hope to find out. I wish there were a MIDI clock sync onboard, but I think even without it'll be amazing. I've only ever really used MIDI to sync clocks between my devices, so doing program changes externally might be a little over my head.
I've been checking my email/this forum obsessively though because I **really** want to get in on the ground floor of this one.

I played it for a couple minutes with Nick's assistance at the Deli Pedal Day event at Main Drag and then talked to Scott for a bit who is super fucking chill and hilarious.

Unfortunately I was pretty overwhelmed by the event and didn't feel like I was really able to focus on this beast. Requires sitting down and really like exploring/sitting with it it for a while, though I'm sure once you have a sense of each mode it will be super playable. There's just a ton going on. It is really a looper with some bizarro capabilities. Just messing around and having Nick try to explain it to me got some amazing things to happen. There's an overdub as you play mode which is kind of insane. Also slowed down the loop an incredible amount to where it just turns into a huge beautiful texture...I dunno. Yeah it was crazy. Didn't really even get to understand the tip of the iceberg.

Anyone else been obsessively checking this subforum/their email to see if these things have gone up yet?
Scott, are you going to just put them in the store then send an email blast, or will you give us a warning for the time they'll go up? I internet significantly less over the weekends, so I don't wanna get caught off guard.

Totally! Seems like this has been my morning ritual the last 6 months.
I'm still excited to see the demo's.
But I'm so happy to finally withstand the GAS for the first time.
Because I decided to "TRY" not to get it if it hasn't midi sync.
Wish me good luck
