Personally, if I kept a shotgun under my bed, I'd keep one out of the chamber simply for the fact that I'd much rather not shoot someone because I'm pretty sure I can't afford the legal fees and I'm willing to bet that your average home intruder will think twice when they know the homeowner is upstairs and armed.

But, I have kids so I keep a handgun in a little touch button safe, instead.

For all other reasons, the shotgun is still the premier home defence weapon.

Also, I found it really funny that a story about "gun safety" included a guy who had no fucking trigger discipline whatsoever. First thing he did when he picked up a firearm was stick his finger in the trigger guard.

Yeah, I mean, it tugs at your heartstrings. Preventable deaths are always sad.

The gun dealer had some good points about improving public education on gun safety (like when he said his kids would never get a hold of his guns because he actually keeps them safe and locked) and the host just steamrolled over him with the whole "no, no, no, we need the technology to be safe."

I have mixed feelings about that too.

You can't rely on people to do things right all the time.

Sure, that gun dealer may be really conscientious about gun safety, but as evidenced by what goes on elsewhere, he's in the ideal.

I don't think higher technology is a reliable solution. As we know, if someone's really committed to defeating it, there're always ways around technological impediments.
