Go you!"
LOL. Fucking TGP. I'm surprised anyone even replied to the thread. I mean, it's not about overdrive recommendations for Praise and Worship or people cloning Timmy's and not being honest about it. And the knock on getting upset over a $155 pedal? Why shouldn't you be upset? That's a decent amount of money! Half the time I try to sell something over there, guys lowball the shit out of me. Like, want-to-pay-$45-on-something-I'm-asking-$115-for lowball. Then they turn around and say you shouldn't be upset over $155? Give me a break...

d'awwwwww. thanksies.
actually an interesting exercise in restraint and politeness. i can be me over here, at TB i just don't really care if i get knocked anymore and i know enough people that the ones i care about get where i'm coming from. i was trying to keep it all bland and non-confrontational so it wouldn't get locked or dumped. WE'LL SEE.

lol. that kinda weirded me out too. again, i don't know that place that well except from (reallllllly unflattering) anecdotes, but just from that it had the feel of, "pssssssh. one fifty. one. FIFTY? ONE FIFTY.".
ODD BOTTOMS.

y'all want to see the rather snippy message Paul Cochrane posted on the Gretsch Pages after people failed to fall over screaming when he discontinued the Tim?

it's actually not that bad. context: i and a few other people noted that the problem appeared to be insufficient capacity to meet demand + wait list -> inevitable cloning.
Paul Covhrane wrote:This looks like an old thread, but I had a guy call me today and ask me about some of the things said here, so I'd like to address some of the issues brought up. Sorry about the thread necromancy...
The reason I stopped making the Tim pedal was because I needed to get production up on the Timmy. Tim orders were about 1/3 that of the Timmy while taking 3 x longer to make. Some here have talked about my not doing things to meet demand, but that is why I did it - to focus on the Timmy which was the better seller for me.
Yes cloning played a part. Seeing people say "buy this Timmy clone - no wait" was a factor. But I also had many dealers wanting more, so it was clear to me what I had to do. I had to get more Timmy's out the door. That's pretty much it. There was no trying to manipulate anybody. I did what was necessary to meet demand.
Also - I've been tossing around the idea of redoing the Tim in some anniversary version for a few years. I did not want to just come out with it and shaft the guy who just bought an "old" one the week before. I wanted there to be a good bit of time in between the last standard one and a new version. I hate it when I buy something only to see a new version/upgrade come out the next month, and I didn't want to be seen as a company that plays that way. That fit in with the idea to just focus on Timmys for awhile.
As for the wait...I've never taken a dime up front for a product. I did not spend April's income in January. I got paid for the work I did in April - in April.

Maybe within the context of the rest of the conversation, but I don't think that's snippy at all.

no. in any case, i thought it made an interesting contrast. he necro-ed that thread four months later to explain himself, but wasn't all ducky about it. IMO there are still holes in PC's post--he had to discontinue the Tim so he could re-introduce it in an anniversary model?--but at least he doesn't come off as deliberately deceptive.

Yeah, Paul C. comes across as being a relatively straight ahead guy.
I can totally understand why he did what he did. It's not easy being a small builder and encountering popularity. Production problems inevitably crop up.
From that quote, it doesn't seem like he was discontinuing the Tim just so he could re-introduce it at a later time. It seems like he was discontinuing it for exactly the reasons he describes. I think he was just being a practical businessman about the whole situation. He really only had two options, gear up for greater production or cease production entirely. Quitting while he was ahead was definitely the easier option.
With the internet, builders are now held more accountable for their business decisions than they were in the past. He didn't have to justify the direction he's taking his business to anyone. It's a tiny private company. If he didn't though, he'd have to endure a whole bunch of armchair expert pedal enthusiasts wildly speculating why he did what he did. And most of those guesses would be dead wrong. I can't really say I blame his course of action one bit.

the best way I can explain how I feel about him is this
there were some dudes on some forum a while back (probs tgp) saying some not super nice things about the timmy, and he joins the conversation super polite
like to the point that I went from having absolutely no interest in him or his pedals to youtubeing demos of the timmy and wanting one. just cause he seemed like a Tom Dalton kind of guy, ya mean?
