the guy who plays tywin is so crazy charismatic that he makes the character likeable.
pretty great.

that actor, the guy who plays the onion knight, and the guy who plays mormont all from Strike Back

(not recommending the show, just saying)

all 3 of those guys are awesome in their own right and perfectly cast in GOT IMO

Yeah, that really bums me out as well. Tywin has had a lot of cool scenes that weren't really in the book, like the first time you see him and he's all skinning that deer and talking about battle tactics. Hashtag manshit right there. Even though he is cool, I can't wait for that scene, mostly to see Dinklage's performance.
He is a great actor.
I'm kinda bummed there haven't been more exchanges between Tyrion and Jaime as those two have some great chemistry going on and that last dialogue they have in Tyrions chamber (on this episode) was really quite good.
Those are some of my favorite moments from the book.
Actually, this whole process of Jaime removing his head from his arse is one of my favorite pieces of character development.
Iommic Pope wrote:Yeah, I hope they don't cut that too hard. It's kind of integral to finding out

Aemon is the oldest Targaryen and the cold of the North has been keeping him alive. As well as those other Targaryen related spoilers that have a loose connection between John Snow And Dany. Plus, the shit at the Citadel is just cool. Renegade Maesters, magic candles of dragonglass, anyone?
NSFW: show
I totally agree, but I bet they do away with the adventure to Bravos. Sam leaves, then you see the Aemon die, then the Citadel shit. I am excited to see what role the maesters play in the last books - they allegedly wanted to destroy the dragons and magic, but there are some helping out. I hope to see some full on wizard action.

I actually never caught that the cold of the north was keeping him alive. So he is not established as a Targaryen in the show yet? I thought he told Jon Snow when Eddard or Robb died.
I'm pretty sure it has been said on the show, but doesn't he have some critical info for Sam regarding Jon? (I can't remember :idk: )
Also, fuck yes, hope that the Maesters are all like:

I think that Aemon tells Sam a bunch of shit about his visions of Danerys or something like that. I actually can't remember now that I'm trying - they may not have revealed everything he told Sam, so there may be some really secretive Jon Snow shit in there. And FUCK YES wizard fights.
And

I have no idea what they are doing with the Craster's thing. How the fuck is Jon supposed to get there, then back to the wall before the first attack? I'm not so sure how I feel about that subplot. I guess it is better than watching Bran and company trod through the fucking snow for a full season though...
Can someone who remembers the books better than me please explain what happens at Craster's in the books? I can't remember any real mention of it after the betrayal, but I could be wrong since so much shit goes down at the end of book three.

I don't understand all the insanity about the last episode. So fucking what they showed a guy who hasn't been in the show yet? It really didn't spoil anything for future books except for whatever scene that would be - which would only be a prologue or epilogue in the books, since the chapters are always from a character's perspective. Unless GRRM changes the way he tells the story (which would be absurd at this point). That's why I like a lot of the additions to the show - we get to see scenes that we otherwise couldn't see in the books.

After the mutiny, Sam is still there for a while talking to Mormont until he dies. He said that the mutineers were all raiding the food and raping the wives. Then Sam eventually leaves, and that's the last time we actually see Crasters. As for the mutineers, there's a Bran chapter in ADWD where Coldhands tells them to stop as he has some people he has to go "take care of". Bran wargs into Summer and sees dead bodies, all wearing Night's Watch clothes, and then starts to eat them. The consensus on westeros.org is that these were the mutineers that Coldhands killed and Summer ate. They're not named though.

The hardcore book readers (otherwise known as 'Nerrrrrrrrrddddsssss!!!') feel that showing possible scenes from future books confirms or busts their tinfoil theories and spoil certain character arcs. Also, in the episode synopsis on the HBO website, they named who the main Other was at the end of the episode (they have since changed the info on the website to "White Walker") which is a big spoiler. I'm happy we are getting new information and don't care if the series gets ahead of the books, I'll still read them when they're released.

I can't fucking wait until they get to the last Greenseer. That is going to be some Sabbathian-Olde-World-Warlocks-in-the-forest-hippies-of-doom shit. :doom:
Yeah Craster's isn't gone into in so much detail in the books.
Are you talking about Armory Lorch heading after Bran? I honestly was not a fan of that. Nor was I fan of Lorch being a composite of that character and Vago Hoat (I was really hanging out for the Brave Companions), but Noah Taylor is awesome, so I'll let it slide.

AAAARGH! THAT"S BULLSHIT! BECAUSE:
NSFW: show
The Night's King was a Bolton that managed to get the North on its knees during the last mega-long winter a few hundred years before this coming one. Around the time when the Boltons became renowned for flaying and torturing people.
While I have no doubt that there is a "king" of the Whytes, that is still taking too many liberties, for my purist tastes.

Wait, I thought the Night's King was that Lord Commander of the Night's Watch that ruled from the Nightfort and took an Other for a bride, and then the brothers rebelled and killed him?

I think there are conflicting legends about him in the book.
Personally,
NSFW: show
I prefer the one with the Boltons. It explains Roose's betrayal at the red wedding, gives it more background, and explains what the fuck is up with them a bit more. Also, Dreadfort. You don't get that name for nuthin.
Although, let's face it, anything is possible North of the Wall.
You've gotta read between the lines but it is there.
I find that there is very little truth when characters are explicit about historical events in this series. You've gotta look at the current state of play and piece the past together from rumour, whisperings and little deets dropped here and there.
So do we think
NSFW: show
The Crannogmen might actually bail out Bran and the Reeds at Craster's on the show? Was Jojen's seizure a psychic message to his dad?
???

Bran Stark recalls stories told to the Stark children of the Night's King and the Nightfort by Old Nan, servant in Winterfell. She said some people believe the Night's King was a Bolton, a Magnar out of Skagos, an Umber, a Flint, a Norrey, or a Woodfoot, who ruled Bear Island before the ironmen came. However, she identifies the Night's King as a Stark of Winterfell and brother to the King of the North and hints his name too was Bran.
Much ado about nothing, IMO.

I'm still months away from rereading the books, though.
