Honestly, I haven't scabbed up at all from the last two tattoos I've gotten. I took real good care of them like you as well. I think if you just take awesome care of them then you don't have to worry about scabbing.

the one on my back was such a bitch to take care of. i only got to wash it like twice a day, 'cause i had to talk friends into showing up and jumping in the shower with me. that scabbed a fair bit.

the one on my chest was easy to keep up with since i could reach it. there was light scabbing there, but that was kinda neat.

color flakes.

i felt FABULOUS ever time i got out of the shower.

Yeah behnders I don't let my stuff dry out until it scabs, plus some stuff just doesn't. Red ink is a bitch though. I use pawpaw ointment as aftercare, it really soothes the itching, and it is antibacterial.

If you get Mr Black's emails then you've seen one of my tattoos. I got it in SF about 15 years ago.

i dont think i take care of them at all these days lol i just get and leave em besides showering

i'm getting lasers put in my eyeballs in 2-3 weeks. another thing i'm going to freak out about the minutia and details of aftercare.

Tattoo aftercare has been reduced to applying this right after it's done.

Dunno about that..... as a heavily tattooed person, it's my experience that you have to be extra careful with the more "medicinal" ointments and stuff out there. A lot of them can really fuck up your tattoo.

I came late to this thread, somehow. But as for scabbing, 90% of whether or not it scabs up has to do with how the tattooer made the tattoo. The more they work over one area, the more of an open wound they are basically creating. Thus, more bleeding, thus, higher chance of scabbing. Which is why line work heals so easily. Whenever I've had lines scab up....it's most definitely been because they hit one spot an extra time or two.

I'll snap some shots of some of my tattoos in a minute here. I feel like a poser posting in this thread, but never wanting to show what I have.

I would NEVER use a product like this on a tat and I have a fuck ton of them. Anti bacterial soap and water and a thin layer of lubriderm after being towel dried. Perfect healing everytime.

Those sometimes get referred to as "pintrest tattoos," because, somehow, people see one on pintrest (fuck pintrest, btw) and think "oh, how original, I think I want that."
I guess if you wanted something truly original, you might give it the old interweb search and see what turns up. Like I said, I don't use pintrest, but tumblr might turn up something.

IMO, a good tattoo is something that will not only physically last, but that will not have a meaning so specific that ten years down the road, when you're a different person, it won't have the same value for you.
