I hate to bust your bubble (I'm a cat person as well, although I have two dogs because GF is super allergic to kitties), but a kitty walking in piss and shit ridden litter and proceeding to step on everything from countertops to your couch and bed is definitely pretty unhygienic (look up blacklight scans for cat owners at your own risk) . As for kitties cleaning themselves, sure, that looks good on paper (dogs have more bacteria in their mouths), but we have somewhat evolved to be resilient to the bacteria found in dog saliva (to a degree, so weakened immune systems and young children probably should not have direct contact with dog saliva), but we're definitely not resilient to cat saliva (the most dangerous bacteria there being pasteurella multocida, which may lead to zoonotic infection if introduced via a puncture bite or a scratch with a recently cleaned paw), so when your cat is done grooming and taking a piss/shit, they're basically a walking germ bomb.
