I do want hotter pups for it, I have to crank all my fuzz pedals to get unity volume and it just doesn't drive them right. Now do I want hothothot or vintage style? Maybe a mix.

I like the sound of the stock pups but they're a little weak. My TAFM barely registers a note when the gate is on.

I have the alumitones and they're fucking awesome. Super clear and loud, while still being able to get nasty with fuzz.

This is pretty much exactly what I want.

I actually quite like the stock ones. They have so much bite (especially the bridge) it's awesome.

Just an FYI for anyone interested in doing this... Paul isn't manufacturing hardtail conversion plates any longer... that all got taken over by Kevin of Faction Electric, who is making a slew of different options for offsets and other guitars...

same, i haven't felt inclined to change them yet, they work really nice in my setup. they get way less saturated with dirt than any of my guitars which suits me cos i don't want it that dirty sounding, just a bit of EQ and grind.
my favourite sound is the bridge and middle pickups together into a RAT set low gain, if i leave the choke off it cancels out the typical RAT bass cut, so awesome.

YES!
Bridge + middle is my favorite setting too! And then switch off the middle pickup and engage the ODB-3 and it just jumps you right in the face. Favorite bass dirt sound. I probably have to add that I also put on heavier strings. Low e is a .106

Not really... I got a couple (a blank upper Jag plate and a Marr lower plate) in his year-end sale last year. The stuff is really high quality and he has a massive selection of custom / quirky options (including a hardtail Jag/Jazz/VI plate with cutout for a behind-the-bridge pickup!). Drop Kevin a message on Facebook, I'm sure he'll be happy to answer any questions...

I saw those behind the bridge pickup ones on his Facebook page. I am insanely tempted to grab one of those for my bass VI

A behind the bridge pickup sounds like a noise man's dream come true...

^ absolutely, but you would be surprised with the subtle stuff that can be done by blending in the ringing that happens behind the bridge with your playing in front of the bridge.
my guitar is built with an on/off and blend circuit for a behind the bridge pickup, i wanna try one with a separate output sometime though so i can control the volume and effects on it with my feet.
it's definitely something more people should mess around with for sure.

I tried an Accountant to give it a little boost, and it worked, but I'm wondering if a Barbershop or something similar would be better.
