late chiming in on world war z. it had some great visuals, but overall was pretty damn cheesy. even kinda boring at times. the one part i did love though...
small spoiler:
was the harvard dude comparing mother nature to a serial killer, shared characteristics and mentalities (which was awesome). then accidentally shooting himself (ah, the irony...).

lol. yeah. it had some cool parts, but man....... the cgi looked fucking AWFUL. just use people. please?
and it kind of made me mad. i loved the book, and you can't really do it as a movie, it'd be awesome if somebody like Showtime or HBO let them get grimy and do a series that covered what the book did.
why buy the property then put out a cheesy generic zombie movie with NOTHING from the book in it?
MEH.

because douchy Hollywood writers. It's some kind of ego trip for big name screenwriters to rewrite books for film.

the weird thing is this is something Pitt sunk a lot of money and influence into. he's a good actor that does interesting stuff, i'm surprised this is a movie he was so moist to make.

I sincerely doubt that the writers had any choice, other than an agent calling them up and saying "hey, you wanna adapt World War Z? Yeah, it's that zombie book. Yeah, I know zombies are beyond played out. You know what isn't played out? $500,000 for the easiest 120 pages of your life."
Generally; production companies option books, then hire people to write the screenplays. Oftentimes a story will get optioned several times (Fear and Loathing is a good example) before someone actually turns it into a movie.

lol. any time there was cgi instead of makeup zombies it looked awful. like, take me out of the moment awful. and when they had a horde of them? ew. especially the wall climbing scene (which should have been AWESOME), but that whole camp part.... even when they're running past the huddled up kid.
it looked like a low budget console game. like a Rez Evil clone that didn't get good financing/artists.

yah. i mean, i would WAY rather see Real World Effects that are close to what they want to do than cgi half assery that just doesn't... look good.
for dreamy or odd stuff it excels. but for the correct weight and range of motion or speed of movement and interaction with elements around it? BLEGH. and not just compositing. even with cgi figures reacting with other cgi figures it looks unreal.
to me that's the worst feeling about meh or bad movies. being interested then something happens that completely removes me from the story. visual or storytelling or whatevah.
GRRRRRRRR.

I do agree, for the most part. I myself didn't mind the CGI in World War Z, but I watched a crappy downloaded version at my friend's house that kept cutting out, so I wasn't exactly "in the zone" anyway. I found the film exciting enough, and most of the scenes, albeit cheesy and stupid, weren't terrible. It wasn't my favourite movie of the year, not by a long shot, but it was watchable. I think you're right, though, if they had used more real world effects for the zombies it would have been a lot more threatening and engrossing. But they're a different kind of zombie, right? They're super fast and incredibly stupid. That climbing the wall scene was cool, but with better CGI it could have been incredible.

baaaaad video game graphics. MEH.
it was a'ight. just a silly popcorn movie. 28 Days Later is still one of my favorite zombie movies recently. i gots crushes on Cilian Murphy though.
just watched I Spit On Your Grave 2. the original is silly, the remake was okay, i actually likededed this one a lot.
rape is awful and horrible and one of the worst things a human can do to another human. but it DOES justify some evil shit as revenge.

28 Days Later is an amazing movie, ignoring the fact that it's an excellent zombie movie.

Well, sorry. I didn't read all 23 pages.
but LOST IN TRANSLATION is the most overrated movie in the history of movies.
1) All the color is sucked out of that movie. It's like 90% gray. I Live in Wisconsin, OK? We have 9 months of winter. I don't need you sucking the color out of some other locale in your movie.
2) The genius of Bill Murray. The only possible genius points he can get from this movie is if he actually planned to do FUCKNG NOTHING and show NO EMOTIONS and enunciate NO WORDS and somehow be lauded for it.
Not even a major fox like Scarlett can save that piece of shit movie. Also, she's really not a very convincing actor either.
