Harmony short(ish) scale neck with busted headstock (repaired of course) , random pickup, old 250 pots, .05 cap, mystery bridge. Cherry body, maple bridge cover and knobs.
Sounds surprisingly good, plays pretty nice too.

Zachary D1 that i've played exclusively for the past five or six years. i only own one other guitar (an extremely modded DeArmond) & that one just gets used for prepared guitar noise experiments.

Yup it is a late 70's/early 80's harmony neck, probably off one of their cheap p-bass knockoffs. However it is well placed and has little wear...the entire fretboad was covered in a thick lacquer, I had to strip it and clean up the frets a bit, but it is straight and after it was set up the intonation was good and their were no dead spots...I am pretty happy with this one....it plays very well.

Zachary's the dude with the geocities website who disses everyone to market his own products right? Is it true he requires you to send in an audition tape before he "allows" you to buy one of his guitars?

that's him, but the whole "audition" thing is totally overblown. Alex (the Zachary guy) is actually really cool. i emailed him about the guitar & he sold it to me for cheaper than it was listed on his site. he just cares A LOT about the guitars he builds & who they end up with. i think of him as being totally punk rock, but about building guitars. he's doing it himself the way he thinks it should be done & he rails against the people he thinks are doing it wrong. additionally, a lot of the stuff on his website is tongue in cheek, but because of his rep, it all gets taken seriously. the guitar i have is fantastic. i haven't even considered getting another guitar since i've owned it.

Well I don't know about tongue-in-cheek but he does seem ridiculously full of himself. I mean he, in his own words, says this is "the Telecaster perfected":

How is anyone supposed to take a guy like that seriously??

Zachary Guitars look well made, but to sell a knotty pine guitar for $1500 is a bit much, especially when there is a bit knot right in the middle of a lamination....I mean it is around $20 of raw material for that body.

However the hardware appear to be top quality and the neck looks tidy. I like it, but the cost definately erks me.

It appears he's asking closer to $3000 now for his more recent builds.

new band, this is my setup.

It's an axiom bolt on ric copy. Really good copy, like double truss rods, stereo output, the whole magilla. Weighs more than twice a ric bass because to accomodate the neck bolts it's twice as thick. Has a huge bottom end thump to it and man it's killing my back. Also it's microphonic as all hell and the neck's a bit bowed, but yeah...I love it. Serious caveman, wear low, hit with club bass.
