You can run one 8 ohm cab or 2 16 ohm cabs cause when you run them it divides the power in half so each one will be 8 ohms.

so really if you plan on doing 2 cabs make them 16ohms instead. that way you aren't going to kill your head.

Thanks a ton mate!

You are welcome. so note you should get those swamp thangs as 8ohm and run em serial to get it to 16ohms.

So I'm thinking of turning my Peavey 412f cab into a 218. I have no real use for it, basically bought it because it said Peavey on it and to get any real use its gonna need a new set of speakers, probably deltas if it stays a 412. But I cut my last 218 in half when I blew the BW in my folded 18 and the two cabs got me through those times just fine but right now I'm really regretting doing it and want a 218 again. Because of the size of the cab I'm gonna need to probably do a staggered design, but it should fit and maybe even be able to keep the separate boxes for each speaker.

Any advice for taking existing cabs and re baffling them for a different speaker setup?

Those're mauls, baby, mauls.

Does it count as a cab if I wanna build a 12x15 into the wall of my bedroom?

I have almost don't this sooo many fucking times. my amp room shares a wall with my garage that's insulated enough to do this proper. its called infinite baffle, and I have heard it in a home theater setting and it was amazing. . .

lots of measurements prior to cutting is about all i can suggest. it works the same as building one from scratch.

One of them is ripped and they arent the best speakers to use with bass. There's plenty more 412fs and 412ms around so I don't feel to bad about taking one apart.

Just got an idea though, what about a 212 118?

Cool mixture maybe deltas for the 12s?

Doubt itll fit in the cab though

Actually funny you say that,I was looking at these

http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/msg/4604458567.html

And I measured and an 18 won't fit in there if I want to keep separate chambers for the speakers, but I actually have have a Delta 15 sitting around somewhere so matching Delta 212+115? Yes please. But the thing is all of the speakers are 8 ohms, so the cab would end up a 5-6ish ohm cab. And unless I do some tricky wiring with parallel or series out, it would make using this cab with another hard.

get the 12's 16 ohms. I'm not sure if they have an option for that with Deltas. But if you do... do that wire them to 8 then add the 15 to make it 16ohm. sure you might want it lower but at least it's stable and not stupid shit like 5/6

Well for the fact that those speakers are gone now, that's a desicion made for me.

I did load the 412 with some cheapo 12s I've had lying around, sounds meh but better than the farty CTS speakers that were in it. It could sound way better though. So I could either buy two 16ohm 12s and continue with the 212+115 idea or keep it and leaving it sounding meh or spend a whole lot more on 4 nice 12s.

one of those things where is it worth it to you to invest the time or money in it or not. I have a different perspective on cabs now, not having any gas for them unless they are idiot cheap and then it's to possibly rob them of any good or flip.

Well if it came to spending money I rather put that towards a 218 cab and a 4 ohm 18 to put into the folded cab. So I'm thinking it wI'll remain a 412. Or make it into a 218 like the original plan. It will be pretty cramped though.

Yea it'll be tight but I'm not exactly sure of the exact dimensions.

I know both will fit if I make them offset and make it one big chamber, which would more than likely happen. But there would be more speaker than baffle. How much baffle do you really need? I'm sure what little is left after squeezing 2 18s in will have to be braced a bit.

Or the easiest route find another triangle port 215 and just cut the holes bigger like I did before.
