so......... there's directors i LOVE and they do an okay movie but it's such a departure from the style they usually have that it feels like a letdown. even though it's a decent movie.

Stoker was okay, a little slow for my taste but interesting. i just don't see why you want Park Chan Wook on it. it's not as interesting as his other films.

same with Crows Zero with Miike Takashi. i liked Crows Zero a lot. it was fucking awesome. but....... there's no Miike'ness about it. makes me not as escited to watch 13 Samurais and Harikari.

Yeah, Hidden Fortress was still a good movie. I had just read a bunch of reviews saying Sergio Leone and George Lucas both looted this film to make their masterpieces. I can see some aspects of what people were talking about, but it just was not as good as that description made it out to be.

Do NOT watch Takashi Miike's Harakiri. It's a good movie, but if you've seen the original it'll just piss you off. It ruined what I loved so much about the original  It didn't feel much like one of Miike's movies either, but 13 Assassins definitely had his touch to it.

lol. too late. i already bought the bluray. i feel weird owning something i haven't watched. 's been so long since i saw the original (and i was going through such a weeaboo phase, ran through all the classic Japanese stuff like Kurasawa and Zatoichi and Lone Wolf And Cub and anything Japanesey i could get my hands on some of them blend together) so i dunno if it'd piss me off.

i'll definitely watch 13 Buggers With Swords first though.

watching the remake of Pusher right now. 's....... okay. got the og Denmark trilogy headed this way. sadly, it's only available on DVD.

I mean, Star Wars pretty much doesn't happen without the Monomyth and Hidden Fortress.

As in, you bailed on a fun show of little to no discernible quality that ended up being dragged out for far too long for another show... of little to no discernible quality that's ended up being dragged out for far too long?
The first one. It was fun like Sex in the City or Desperate Housewives was fun. It's just vapid, brainless entertainment.

The remake of Pusher is on Netflix. I was thinking about watching it but I imagine it won't be as good Nicolas Winding Refn's original trilogy. I have them on DVD. Good movies.

I didn't really see the point in a remake. They could have made a remake of any number of foreign language thrillers.

Yes.

Interestingly enough, Entourage is basically the only HBO show that didn't fall lock-step into this Golden Age of Television paradigm that everyone keeps pointing at (basically, with The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Mad Men, Breaking Bad etc.) in that it doesn't have brooding anti-heroes doing very serious things. Entourage comes out today, and people praise it for it's refreshing take on the male-centric power drama.

Dexter's still a promising idea that totally turned into a piece of shit though.

the way they ended the series (entourage) was literally painful to watch.

it was like seeing someone get their fingernails pulled out with pliers

District 9
The fact anyone likes it at all means it's overrated. I want my 20 minutes of skipping through it back.

pigmaker wrote:entourage had some good moments early on. i think season 2? was kind of an extras thing, they had a celebrity guest star every episode. wait, no, thats totally an "extras" ripoff.
there was an episode with gary busey that was great
Hard to rip something off when it's aired after your show.

Extras premiered in England about two weeks after the second season of Entourage began.

Just throwing it out there, but Memories of Murder is awesome and in no way overrated.

ugggggggggggggggggggggggggg no. i'm going to watch it, and it has a great cast, and Spike Lee does some really good stuff (25th Hour, the bank thing with Denzel) when he's not being silly with the racist stuff, but why are they even doing this?

just. you know. watch the awesome ORIGINAL version.

I've seen the original many times. I'm sure the story is going to be nearly the same, which will take any surprises out of it (unless he pussified it for 'mercans), and the awesome shots of the original won't hit as hard.

But Josh Brolin and Samuel L Jackson. Fuck.
