the SVT VR fucking rules
so much more then the CL.
you're superlucky to have scored one Josh Pelican for next to nothing. :thumb:

I hate to be a topper, but I happen to pick up a 2nd SVT-VR this week... :animal:

Image
having two 810's fucking rule.

SVT-VR Made in Korea LOUD (2008 October)
SVT 810 Made in USA SLM Black Cab (2006 August)
SVT-VR Made in USA (2006 May)
SVT 810AV Made in USA SLM Silver Cab (2005 Januay)

and that's ontop of the two Orange PPC412 cabs and the OD120 & OTR120 heads.
I like things in double.
I still have the 72 marshall superbass, but the orange and ampeg make me soo much happier.

the new 810 is the black one (2006), and it's noticeably brighter (and more upper mids) then the 810AV (2005) in silver that I had.
I'm not sure if it's because the Silver cab is in the road case or something different between 2005 vs 2006 models of the 810 ????
i thought the only thing that's supposed to be different is the grill color. :idunno:
any ideas?
I might open up the cabs this weekend to see if the construction is the same. (OSB vs Plywood???)

If the Superbass isn't make you happy anymore, I'd be willing to give it a good home ;)

would you believe me if I told you playing loud music kept me from being crazy?
when I go for a week without cranking the stacks for a few hours I actually get sad and depressed.
cause I actually believe the good vibrations keep me sane and in a good mood.
it's easy medication I'd say.
too bad it's not covered by medicare though.

Well, if I ever get a second SVT-VR, hopefully I win it on ebay. If I'm really fucking lucky, the same thing will happen. TWO FREE SVTS?

But, really... I'm having it re-housed in a few days and I'm stoked. It's finally going to look beautiful again. Might be getting my micro VR rig soon, too.

I hope to own a vintage SVT someday. It'd be nice for me to be able to compare 'em side by side. I could use a few more Ampeg heads, just because. I can easily say Ampeg is my tone.

you'd be silly to tell the difference.
they really do sound the same. Same airiness, same grit, same eq range.
As much as Id like a vintage one I'd be weary of playing it, defeating the purpose of owning the amp. (that's my problem owning a vintage marshall right now)
I'm gonna stick to the two VR heads, play and maintain them as long as possible.

I ran some more tests today and the 2005 810 cab is gonna go.
it's made of MDF vs the 2006 as OSB, but the tone is remarkably different. same eminence speakers
It's a shame because I REALLY like the look of the silver cab with the silver head.
and swapping the grills won't work because they're not exactly the same size.
I'm gonna pick up the PR810 cab listed locally. that one is made of plywood and supposedly even BETTER sounding.
