Best pedal ever? Based on the feature set and Brian's track record = possible.

We haven't set a date just yet. Our powder coater is dragging their feet, and we actually got in a shit load of orders last week without dealers knowing about this pedal. I wasn't expecting that, so that will have to be worked in to the plans.

I was once also a flanger hater... but it wasn't so much the effect, but the way it's typically used in very cliche ways. I suppose you could say the same of spring reverb LOL. I ended up spending a lot of time this year playing with flangers, mostly an electric mistress and an old MXR. I found some interesting stuff once I stopped trying to sound like Van Halen or Heart.

As for price, it will be a little more than our other DLX pedals. I know that will scare a few people off. We honestly tried to keep this thing in the same footprint and price, but it just felt and sounded compromised. It's in a 1790 size enclosure to accomodate the extra knobs, larger PCB. Definitely the most complicated thing we've done thus far. It uses an MN3007 and runs internally at 15 volts. That last part just wasn't going to work in the smaller enclosure, even if we reduced the controls.

Most people use flangers in really annoying ways. It sounds cool for a start, but it's the type of thing you hear as a kid and go whacka-whacka for and then soon ditch for fuzz or something more musical. But now I appreciate flanger differently. I still prefer phaser, but maybe that's because I have a Quasar Dlx. :poke:

In general I'm usually a phaser guy too. Flangers are not as versatile in an effect chain to my ears. I really only like them after overdrive/distortion/fuzz, and not before. Phasers can work both ways depending on the desired effect. The regen/feedback on a phaser generally adds a lot more dimension to the effect. Phasers also sound really cool and prominent with a basic clean tone. It's not impossible, but it's definitely harder for me to find uses for a flanger with out some dirt involved.

Not going to lie, I had the Starlight for a day and sent it back as it wasn't my thing, but the DLX version looks out-fucking-standing. Can't wait to try it.

 I am now questioning your qualifications to be building this flanger. :engarde:

I use the Starlight in the loop of my amp. I tried all sorts of different places and that's where it sounded the biggest and roundest. The same applies to the Quasar Dlx. I just like how it totally envelopes the sound.

i hate to be a bitch, but my issue with the Subdecay stuff is that i love love love the various step-filtering options, but don't care for the EV/flanger/phaser sounds which i always find kind of thin and lifeless. i wish they'd make a step filter with variable frequencies, some kind of real bandpass/parametric filter rather than the XXX + step filter things. i already have a flanger i love, and don't really want to buy a flanger i don't love just so i can get it to go BEEPBEEPBOOP.
