Can confirm that your problem is less significant in Canada; everybody just listens to indie rock; the rap scenes are so small that if race were an issue, there would not be a scene. Toronto is an exception (though consider that, like Lenny Kravitz, our biggest star in Jewish). But Montreal, Halifax rap scenes are mostly white kids. And they are very small in comparison to the indie rock scenes. Montreal is an indie mecca and there are very few boundaries drawn along demographic lines. Shows are very mixed audiences. Murray Lightburn, the singer of Dears, has been dubbed "the black Morrissey," and is one of the best-known Montreal rockers, an ambassador, even. So there you go.
Anyway... fuck anybody who wants to shove people in boxes. That's not how life ought to work.
Oh, and last time I saw Boris, the audience was every colour under the sun

This bumping and grinding the dead (threads) thing is bringing some interesting old conversations back to life though.
As well as some inane ones.

thought about this the other day. if i were black, would i be listening to the same music as i do today?
and another thought was, would i react to seeing a band being completely black after having heard their music and that music being a genre dominated by white guys (black metal - get it?). it really is such white guy music, that satanic metal thing, i wonder if i'd react to it.
i mean, i already know i react to looks. I really got into the melvins these last 2 years, and the first time i saw the guys haircut was like "yikes, that's ugly. that's who i've been listening to?". Quickly didn't give a shit though.
someone give me non-whites playing metal, i gotta check this out.
i'm also starting to wonder if what i'm saying is borderline racist. i'm gonna go check my privileges or something.
Animals As Leaders
Bad Brains
TV on the Radio (not metal)

I saw Tony Iommi at the airport. He's tall.

That's one of the many reasons why Suffication is so fucking awesome.
For a genre that's for "outsiders" metal hasn't been too kind to non-White non-male folks.
More power to those that break the norm!

Actually only <3% of my community is white.
...is it racist that I know the percentage?
EDIT: Nah man that percentage makes a heart! I just realized it

Is it racist of me to say that the black dudes who work at Whole Foods are the nicest/friendliest employees there?

It's true what Colin Cowherd says about whole foods in Manhattan Beach--eye candy all day. A lot of yoga pants.
