Also turns out I totally forgot to post my bajo sexto in the thread

i think 12-strings need heavier low strings to balance out all the treble-ness. which becomes a contest of capabilities considering that 12-string necks prefer the lightest strings possible.

i don’t know beans about bajos, so i have to ask if the bottom 2 strings are intended as a doubled course or played separately?

Doubled, actually current trend is to remove the lowest course and play them as a 10string.. I can see why after stringing it.. there is not much room between the courses…. I’m thinking of doing that… I do not have small hands….

that looks tight for my hands which are in fact small. if the courses on the bouzouki were any closer together i couldn’t play it, and comparatively they’re quite a bit farther apart. is that a acoustic neck or an electric one with a new nut? i have a feeling you explained all this, but i don’t remember it.

I might have? It’s an acoustic neck off one of those 70s epiphones. I have a electric neck around somewhere that is wider.. but it is a Chinese kit thingy and I didn’t want to mess with it plus it has no mojo.. while this was a pain in the ass to make work.. but has mojo

necks are often tricky in that the things that look good often don’t work or vice versa. and used necks are particularly weird, e.g. my Höfner neck for the Galaxiemaster which required a ton of work because the stripey inlays on the fingerboard shrink at different rates and were quite uneven. i’ve had it for a decade but only really got it sorted this week. it sucks because though i like them, Fender necks are boring.
