Ever since the valcoder died I lost faith in the consumers of tremolo. If the semaphore was still horizontal, I'd probably consider it, because it looked pretty sexy then.
Granted I didn't read all of the words said, the Tremolessence and Semaphore have the controls that every versatile tremolo should have. kind of like how delays have to have a repeats, feedback, and blend knobs. I'm actually surprised EHX hasn't updated their Pulsar to these standards. I guess what i'm trying to say is it seems the only way to decide between the too is by company bias. what graphic do I like best and do i have other pedals by the manufacturer to match it so my board looks pretty?
I felt like posting end of 2 cents.

The vert semaphore is pretty sexy. It was my best looking pedal for a while
Something about it just pops.

Hey Jared! That's sort of my point though, that you don't have to decide just on the looks... you can decide on the sound! Lots of things have the same control knobs but that doesn't mean they'll sound the same way at all or that the controls are even doing the same thing.
Every designer makes circuits differently, from the audio input and output to the way various controls works, everybody has their own bag of tricks and their own unique style that affects how a circuit sounds. Just because two pedals have similar controls doesn't mean they're similar pedals... and even if they are doing a similar thing, if they're designed by two different and original designers then you can guarantee they won't sound and/or function exactly the same way. So you still gotta try them and see what you like more!
I agree with you too that company bias plus physical appearance are factors that add to these decisions but you know how it goes, you have to play a lot of dirt pedals with 'Gain', 'Volume', and 'Tone' knobs to find one that speaks to you.. they all offer something different.
And I agree with you too, Jon, Catalinbread pedals look great!

looks are great and all for pedals, but in the end when the lights go down and the show starts all I see is an led.

I received a Tremolessence in a trade, and I've gotta say it's the cleanest sounding tremolo I've ever heard.
It's an absurdly versatile trem and you can use it to boost yer signal a bit which sounds fantastic. It sounds pretty awesome on bass, too. The bassist in my band won't turn it off, hahaha. Once I get my Twin Reverb back home from our rehearsal space I'll do a demo.

Thanks Jeff, that's awesome to hear! I'd love to hear a demo when you get set up! Love to hear a bass demo too, I don't have a bass to hear that for myself. Thanks!

You'd have to INSIST that your guests used coasters!

Are tremolessences small MXR sized boxes or the slightly bigger 125b type?

Hey Eric, for all my small size pedals I use the Hammond 1590B, the MXR size box. It's a tight squeeze but I love the small size.
