i find it, erm, interesting that peoples' views on #MeToo often depend on whether or not the ox that's being gored is important to them personally. nobody but elderly black people cared about Cosby because he hasn't been relevant since that (NAACP?) speech, but if it's Louis C.K. or Orri suddenly it's all "#notallmen." the Sigur Ros subreddit is absolutely disgusting with people hating on Orri's accuser.

Here's the thing: if false accusations are "really rare" you must be living in a different world than I do, or just have a very selective memory.

Remember the Duke lacrosse thing a couple years ago? Or the Yovino chick over the summer? She was gang raped by two black football players and they were looking at decades of incarceration....except, as it turns out, she had consented to a double-teaming and was afraid her boyfriend would break up with her for it.

It's called remaining logical - people I love, people in my family are rape victims. I know the damage it does. Thing is..I was also friends with a girl in high school that lied about getting raped after she was rejected. You know what happened? The dude's friends jumped him so bad one night that he never fully recovered.

Believe women? I would, but life lessons and logic tell me that's intrinsically wrong.

So, that's three "false" accusations you've heard of. Forgetting for a second that one or more of those might not really have been false and that the survivor may just have been intimidated into backing down, you've definitely heard of considerably more actual assaults, and you've also very definitely not heard about countless other assaults where the survivor couldn't stomach the consequences of accusation. So, yeah, false accusations are rare, and your behaviour is still enabling rapists.

2006. so you say there were three false accusations over 16 years (at least...you don't say how far out of high school you are), and thus no accusation from those 16 years should be taken seriously?

Manosphere? Is that what's at work when the FBI reported 4-5,000 rape allegations, annually, are found to be completely false?

I'm presuming you found this nugget on Wikipedia because you didn't provide a link, and I think it's worth pointing out that the very next line in that wiki article (and it's also said in the study that's cited) that this represents about 5.5% of all cases.

So... 94.5% of the time, those allegations are not "completely false".

Regardless, this public outing without evidence is a problem.

No...those are just the cases where conclusive evidence to the contrary was found.

My feeling, personally, is that rapists, if found guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt, should be castrated and/or killed. However, women are just as fucked up and crazy as men...to say otherwise would make you sexist, wouldn't it? Humans are flawed, and sometimes they lie. That should be all a logical person needs to know to not blindly side with someone that accuses another person of something.
