his name is literally invisible man, so he was already invisible. to disappear without someone to see your invisible self do so is a pretty sad way to go any way you look at it...

does an invisible tree make a sound in an invisble forest if no one is there to hear it?
does an invisible man make a sound in a digital forum if no one is there to read it?
