It's gonna be hard. I mean, it wasn't that long ago the Michael Gira (Swans) was accused of rape and even admitted it (without calling it rape, calling it an "awkward mistake") and by and large it seemed to just disappear.

Completely missed this in the media cycle (it's been a rough year, you understand) and am cynically unsurprised by the news :(

Holy shit, the posts in this thread are so long, so I'm just gonna post this story.

I didn't really believe in things like "rape culture" or whatever until I found out about a friend of mine that went to juvie/jail when I was in HS.
Apparently, a female friend of his was raped by some trust fund piece of shit. So, he confronted him, a fight broke out, the dude had brought brass knuckles which my friend managed to get a hold of, and he promptly beat the holy shit out of the rapist.
Long story short, dude/dude's family pressed charges for "assault with a deadly weapon" and my friend ended up in juvie.
For other reasons relating to issues with his family and whether it was safe for him to be housed with either of his parents, the state decided to transfer him to prison rather than release him when he was supposed to be released.
He finally got out, had his record expunged and moved in with his dad. A lot of other bad shit happened to him and his family after that, too.

The most surreal thing was that he was, basically, just like me and all this horrible shit happened to him because he dealt with a rapist when no one else would.

Jesus christ.

People who don't believe in rape culture are just people with a strong disincentive to believe in reality.

this fucking thread, ...so much ...I....cant.....ugh!.....almost everygirl ive been involved with has a ''he touched me or IT happend when I didnt want it'' story....
but that has nothing to do with rape "culture", fuckin over masculated jock males & Victoria secret is rape culture... rape is your mother or sister or best friend or your neighbor or your boss or the lady at the grocery store or little johnny coming home from work or school or playing in your backyard, being knocked over the head and dragged into a place viciously mauled and left barely alive or beheaded by some animal...
not seeing another as an independent creature of great potential & snuffing that as if they were just a joke in the beasts segregated sick mind brain damaged unschooled born into somthing that wasnt their fault that damaged them into seeking prey...theres a reason, and the "I rape the raper" attitude doesnt help but neither does jail, just put some concrete shoes on'em and let the sea eat them, plenty of hungry tigers at the zoo
..i was gonna post a "are we not men, no!, we are animal" gifs from island of lost souls, but this shit sucks....makes your blood run cold and you just want to kill & spill blood...and to further hopefully not piss ya off, from my eyes it has damaged innocence, yet a lot of women's story's go to show how they have managed to forgive and break free from that chrysalis into stronger beings...where men just commit suicide or get totally self destructive which leaks into destroying others. or mental illness.
so LETS MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT IT! ugh!? riiight!> ? yeah lets make movies, be overly sexy...whats a dress? let me sag my pants so home boy knows whats up...motherfuckers dont have a clue, buying and selling, stupid white boys not finding a strong positive male influence in their lives so they see hood rat home boy litsten to "bitch wouldnt suck it so I struck her in the face and pounding that ass, spraying her with a can of mace" rap bullshit. lets write a book and make a tv dr phil 2 hr long special and start a race war and lets promote seeing everyone as a potential threat that isnt conformed to a cookie cutter ideal, american culture = fuck me. fuck life and fuck this world. buncha animals and by accident of birth im one of them. filthy humans.
shit I get baby mamma callen me walkin home from work about the amount of men who stop her on way home sayin hey need a ride ect and it aint like the im doing gods work its i want a piece of ass
oh yeah, fuck hollywood...ya shoulve known better, money=power=beast
"and the strong shall devour the meek and suckle a reward"
"earth is so beautiful!" fuckin hippie this is the worst place ever...lets take it down a knotch and say earth is like a really awesome movie cover, that you take a chance on for 15.95, and getting home the disc is scratched, and the info sheet is missing, cuz it was used ..and 40 mins in you've had enough cuz the movie sucks, then they wont let you return it...all cuz it LOOKED cool.
this is all a crock of shit, if youve ever watched porn your part of rape culture, you ever been to a burlesque show and not wanted to fuck the girl, and went home saying now thats art without a boner...i guess you should hit up another night club  you ever push your woman up against a wall and made violent love? you should.

Does anyone else feel like this makes SE7EN better, because now we know the monster in the film is an actual predator?

Yeah, one of the things in the back of my mind with this (as well as the British pedophilia investigation Operation Yewtree) is "are they gonna go for Jimmy Page?" Or David Bowie? Or whoever. Maybe even someone I care about these days. The list of musicians who have boned 14-year-old groupies probably stretches into infinity. Lori Maddox says she had some agency in her decisions and doesn't regret it. Couldn't have gone that way for everyone.

This has bothered me ever since I really started to think about it, but kinda wrote it off as "oh, that was just how things were during those times." But then, I have a relative who was convinced by a Catholic priest to have sex with him when she was around the same age during the same era and it damaged her a lot and I can't just write him off.

Here's a good first person account about Red Hot Chili Pepper harassment during the 80s: https://thegrayishcarpet.com/2016/04/20 ... dickheads/ As with the Gira thing, there wasn't really any follow-up as far as I know.

Eight years ago, while I was still married to my first wife, Larkin Grimm and I headed towards a consensual romantic moment that fortunately was not consummated. As she wrote in her recent social media postings about that night, I said to her, "this doesn't feel right," and abruptly but completely our only intimate encounter ended. It was an awkward mistake.
I know reading comprehension on this board is non-existent, but let me translate this.

We started fooling around and guilt got the better of me before penetration.

You can't have rape without penetration. consummation = penis inside vagina

Reminder what does exist on this board: the ability for a user to correct the record & post just the facts free of condescension, and/or contemptuous assertions only serving to insult & divide the locals.

I'm going to shy away from picking this apart because I'm as yet unsure if my interpretation of your statement reflects your intent in stating it.

That said, it is absolutely and irrevocably a fact that predation upon another goes so far beyond a nightmarishly narrow definition of rape, and that to start throwing these definitions around is undermining a crucial discourse.

Exploitation or assertion of a powered position will leave scars upon those who are victimized or exploited. It is the sense that any given individual has an entitled or superior position to any other individual (for any reason) that is a cultural norm (not a biological one) that has long surpassed the point at which it should have extinguished. My hopes are that we as a combined people who comprise society can digest that and move forward.
