Also residual guilt for saying homeboy's tattoos were kinda played. We don't speak ill of the almost-dead.

I respectfully disagree. People who say these kinds of things might want to consider that they may in fact have no idea what living with severe depression and suicidal thoughts is like.
That being said, I listened to their first two albums when I was younger. Listening to them again is not something I ever felt like doing, but still...gateway albums. Appreciated.

for what it's worth...
i ever got into linkin park when they were cool. today i felt like i maybe missed out on a period of my adolescence in suburban michigan.
it was better than expected.
it holds up way better than any other nu metal record. pinnacle nu metal, you guys.
gonna agree with goroth in regards to some of the electronics stuff. some of the dj and rap stuff is pretty whack but some of the other stuff is deeeeece.

Nu metal gets a bad rap (largely deserved) because it became the music for the meat head. But bands like Systems of a Down and Deftones are great though they were lumped with Nu-metal. I think Nu-metal was a stripped down Metal-Core/Alternative Metal that had a very short window. Think Prong and Helmet. That sound didn't last long enough ('92-'96 approx.). Here's a good example:

I have suffered from manic depression with bouts of suicidal thoughts (along with self destruction such as cutting, trying to OD and other things I did to try and kill myself throughout the years) and have for around 28 years. I'm still here. Why? When I was younger it was because I was scared. Now that I'm older it's because I know the damage it will have on those around me and I've taken an active roll in fighting my depression.
Some folks don't have the means to do that. Meaning they cannot afford mental health. A guy like this? He has no excuse other than giving into self loathing or whatever shit he was carrying on his back.
Suicide to me is very self serving and is not a solution to any problem.
Does that mean he's a piece of shit for committing suicide? In my book it's not that simple. The answer is yes and no. If he planned and financially set his family up (which sounds cold, but it's important) than it's less of a blow at least in one aspect. The damage done to his children by knowing their father committed suicide however is going to be something that will fuck them up for the rest of their lives. So, now there is an issue that has been created and who knows if it will ever dealt with properly. Meaning all his loved ones getting psychological treatment.
It's a sad situation and one that folks need to stop advocating for. I see people telling others it's ok to commit suicide. I'm sorry but no it isn't. You are part of the fucking problem in this world if you think that way. Suicide is not an answer and it doesn't help anyone. These people need mental help, not a loaded gun stuck in their hand with people telling them it's ok.
That's my thoughts. I'm not fully expressing myself here because I don't want to come off as a dick, but I have some very strong thoughts about suicide and have had friends who did this shit as well.
I hope he rests in peace and I hope his family can get through this tragedy.

^^this
My dad committed suicide almost 2 decades ago and that shit still gets to me sometimes. Not only are those kids gonna be fucked, but when they have kids of their own it's going to be just as sad.
I look at my kid all the time and think how much he and my dad would have fucking loved each other and it pisses me off that my kid will never know his grandpa.

I don't think anyone's telling anyone else it's ok to commit suicide, per se, rather just saying not to condemn it. Obviously it really fucking sucks; one of my very best friends in high school killed herself a couple years later while we were in college, and I've wondered countless times what I could've done to help her. The thing is that I did try—we all did. At the end of the day though, she couldn't be helped, truly one of those instances of "you can't help someone unless they're willing to be helped."
So that's the awful heart of it all—I'd never, ever condone suicide, but sometimes someone's just in such tremendous pain that it's their only way to find relief. Sure, you want them to stay around for their family, but at what cost? To continue living in torture? It's the worst conundrum. My only hope is that with the death of high profile people such as Bennington and Chris Cornell, that mental health gets a little more attention.

So essentially, despite it being the last outcome anyone would ever want—compassion vs condemnation. Certainly wasn't aiming to piss anyone off with that one.
