V30 loaded cabs are the best for marshalls and british type amps.

For some unknown reason, I prefer the sound of a 2 X 12 to a 4 X 12.

It's because you're Quebecois.

my suggestion comes from experience with a V30 loaded 2x12. though my 2x12 is oversized.

The Matchless is a 212 combo with what I believe are Matchless-customized V30s, or roughly that ballpark. It's open back, which I've always preferred, but... I dunno, the closed back 4x12 just adds a lot more focus to the bottom end. Oddly enough, the reverb sounds a LOT better through the big cab—it always sounded pretty lackluster before, was my only real gripe about the amp.
Apparently Matchless sells head enclosures for $350 including a reverb tank, so I might just head-ify my CH40 and resell the Marshall. Unexpected.

not a bad choice. the matchless will be a lot more reliable than the jmp in the long run. but wait till you get that back first.

I will when I get the Marshall back
Right now it just looks kind of ridiculous when the Matchless is plugged in. Have to turn the combo sideways so the cable will reach. With a head though, will look pretty rude.

Orange cabs are the shit. Don't know the witch craft behind it, but they sure did something right with the PC412. Though not quite in the same league as Orange, older Marshall 1960 cabs are still a decent bang for the buck too imo, even with the stock G12H75's. Loaded mine with a pair of G12H30s and a pair of V30s. To cut down even more weight/mony, I'd love to find an old Marshall 1966 to take its place. Smaller/lighter, but more convinient dimensions to put my amp on. Plus it looks cooler
