About ten right wing mayors decided to do so in their town (on about 36 000 mayors in the entire country), all decisions have been suspended and annulled by the administrative justice, and some on initiative of the Prefet (local representative of the national government, controls local government's respect of national laws). I don't consider what the press has been calling an event an actual event. If so we should talk about how my mayor has instituted a fine for burning dead tree leaves instead of bringing them to the local dump on top of the national ban. Because that was validated by the courts and is actual applicable law.

Really, all that shitstorm proves is how so little is know about the French political system.

I won't take offense, because I live in the only state in the world in which church and state are actually separated. Because in most where freedom religious has been recognized, there's still a state recognized church or state recognized churches or like in the US, the dominant religion is ingrained in all aspects of the political system (bigotry is a method of decision, elected officials swear on the bible, one nation under god, blablablablabala).
