Yeah, I know he's talked of that way, just never saw how it is horror (disregarding Audition, which is amazing horror). Most of his movies (that I've seen) have been surreal crime dramas. But I guess the tone of some of his movies can be sort of chilling, though more similar to someone like David Lynch than what I'd usually consider horror. But yeah, everybody should definitely watch more Miike.
He has a 100 director credits under his belt and is very diverse, so maybe you've only been able to experience those crime ones (which are also amazing imo).
I like Lynch and Miike equally. I'd never compare the two.

Ya, probably. I've mostly been limited by what is available online, so have just been watching what I can get my figurative hands on.

You should be able to find this somewhere. Best horror B-movie I've seen. Incredibly underrated. Don't watch the trailer, it spoils too much.

session 9 (Couldn't find session 13?)
altered states
yeah my bad. session 9. and altered states are both great. though both more screwing with your mind.
for more gore, check out dead alive. was once deemed the goriest movie ever made. the lawnmower POV shot is classic.
also the original creepshow is gold.
also in the mouth of madness.

I've seen some good new ones recently:
Antibirth - Natasha Lyonne, Chloë Sevigny, music by Eric Copeland, body horror.
Green Room - Anton Yelchin, Patrick Stewart, punks vs. neo-nazis.
The Wailing (Goksung) - Korean, inept cop vs. supernatural evil.
I'd also recommend the Red Riding trilogy, it's not horror as such but bleak and creepy as fuck.

100% agree.
Also love Session 9. Bonus — has the best Caruso scene:
Onto more for the list, one that I sometimes forget about but fucks me up every time I see it: Jacob's Ladder.

I love how Caruso's got a secret drug problem in Session 9, and it's smoking weed.

Um actually it just happens that all of my opinions are facts. Happy accident, that.
Anyway so far I have rewatched Zodiac for the first time in two years (so I'm counting it as fresh). Love me some Jacob's Ladder. Not sure what's on the docket for tonight.

I love Zodiac--I'd say it's one of my favorite of Fincher's.
