Really wish it was legal but Chris Christie's heart might explode if he'd have to let it go through.

I sort of wish it would pass less for the weed and more to make Chris Christie's heart explode.

That's the name of our new band:

The Chris Christie Heart Explosion

(We'll do JSBX & Heart covers in a grindy noise-synth style. :!!!: )

The single most hypocritical thing Christie has said on the topic (paraphrasing)
"I wont support legalized marijuana because addiction contributes to breaking up homes and families"
...this was in tandem with easing gambling restrictions, justified as being *economically stimulating* :whoa:

This makes me curious about the actual economic impact of gambling. I wonder what research has been done there, and whether or not it's all just horrible game theory nonsense....

I really need to take better advantage of living in a state where marijuana's legal...

The only times I've had any interactions with cops in the last ~10 years is either when I call in on drunk drivers or because some asshole called in a noise complaint.
Had quite a few interactions when I was younger, though, due to parental issues.

Here's a fun one, last night I got pulled over for driving drunk because I was on my way to the hospital with a copperhead bite. Cop tried to go through the motions until I demanded he wait until I get out of the hospital for the ticket and right now I just needed an escort. He was kind enough not to give me a ticket afterwards and gave me a ride home.

Great (short) story!

Snek being snek, when man treads by mistake
legit emergency justifies violation
of driving intoxicated
but the man does not tread
he protects & serves instead

Lost all hope in emergency services tonight.
There looked to be a massive fire behind some commercial building that was near some residential area (RV rental park or something) late at night following a decent sized electrical storm that came blasting through.
I noticed the smoke and then saw bits of the fire when I was going into a convenience store across the street.
I dialed 911 and they redirected me all over the fucking place four times.

Finally, after reaching someone that'd talk to me the person was ditsy as fuck and then said, "yeeeeah, I guess we'll send someone by there."
I waited around for half an hour to see if anything would materialize, nobody fucking showed up.

I still have no idea whether it was just rednecks holding a huge bonfire (it was something around 10 feet high with embers going as high as 20 feet in the air) in the middle of suburbia or if there was an actual serious fire hazard because those bastards didn't even bother checking to see.

That's why I chose to not let the cop know that I had the snake in a taped up shoebox in the car. They tend to put down pit vipers and I didn't see any reason it should get its life cut short for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Called my friend with my spare (after my misfortune of losing my wallet and keys one night) with instructions to drive out and let it loose in the mountains.

Do you live in one of those areas where emergency services are being cutback? That just sounds super unprofessional and dangerous.

I'm not sure.
It's a country/suburb type area where jurisdiction seems to be really unknown.
I was talking to one of the employees at the store and they said they have to deal with that shit all the time when they're fucking with shoplifters and such because the cops can't make up their minds.
The funniest (I guess it's funny) part was I even said, "thank god I'm not in the middle of a shootout because you can't get your shit together" and they just completely brushed it off.

We got that deal with the police over here, but only in the eastern part of town. The state troopers want to run the 2 main roads because they're both technically parts of a highway, the sheriffs want to run it because some weird gerrymandering made it part county, and the police want to run it because they're just generally antagonistic. Easy to get pulled over and have it turn into a pissing contest when a different officer shows up, but when our store got broken into (twice in the space of a month!), it took at least a day for anyone to show up because the police and the sheriffs were trying to coordinate whose jurisdiction it was.

Federal states at their finest. In France it's much more simple. National police has jurisdiction everywhere. Local police can only intervene to enforce municipal government laws (like no poop on our beach or anti burkini rules - btw 7 mayors in 36000 adopted these, no need to call the entire French people fascists, not to mention said rules were annulled by the administrative justice a week after they were taken) in case of emergencies, like if they were there and heard someone screaming.
