It's not shameless self-promotion because you asked.

Need's a forth option: "No, I'd like to be, but it's hard finding people. And I'm lazy."

I'm in a cover band that plays for srs around New England. It's fun and we make decent change. I also have original stuff from a two piece that is slowly dying and it makes me sad because my bandmate is one of my closest friends and I don't have the balls to just kill it and tell him it's been real and find a new band.

I've never not be in at least one band of varying seriousness since I was 13 or 14. But I've never been afraid to pull the pin on shit if it stopped being fun or one of the people turned into a dick or something.

I like to keep busy.

Two solo projects. Smoking Roses, which has been my main solo thing for years now. Most of you have probably already heard my stuff at this point. Working on a new album.

DotHackDMG is the chiptune project. Did it on a whim to get into chiptune as a genre, ended up having my first album be very well received by the chiptune community which was sick! Working on LP2 at the moment, gonna be fire. Releasing that around the same time as the SR album.

Toadhouse is the only band where I have extra people I work with. I play bass and sing. We usually catagorize ourselves as jazz rock/jazz punk since that where we end up musicially. Two of the four of us are jazz musicians, we all enjoy jazz, but we also like rock and punk so it kinda ends up mixed together. We're working on our first album right now and have a few gigs lined up in the yarea.

So yea, thats what I'm up too.

was in a band for a couple of years, then in an improv collective for another year or so, but now i'm ALONE.

once i'm more on top of my studies i want to start something up again but it would have to be in between this time. i hatehatehate the promotional side of being in a band as well feeling pressure to write/record with people who work at a different pace, but i can't stand not having rigid/regularly scheduled practises either. absolutely do not look forward to seeking out the right people, especially since i can't work with other guitarists for shit and would much rather play with a concert or electronic percussionist than go with the normal band format. i'd say woodwind or violin would be great too but that's just downright not gonna happen.
tried the solo thing but in the end where i get my inspiration is by being in a room with a guitar and a bunch of like minded people so i'm sticking with that thought.

Ages ago, not in the past few years.

I'm not that serious about guitar now and strumming chords with too much delay and gain is more cathartic than enjoyable for the other people to be around.

bands become odd families so it really sucks when it ends, but it also leads to new shit and opportunities.

I really want to hear this! I've been trying to bring this junk together for a while without any success. I think the biggest problem is the people I play with most often aren't really into either, so it never goes anywhere lol

wow. why?
Combination of typical band frustrations (egos, scheduling, laziness) and the realization that my interest and enjoyment of making music is more about exploring sounds and ideas in my spare time than writing songs or recording albums. Taking away the pressure to "produce" (which I used to beat myself up about a lot) I enjoy it all so much more.
Same, sorta. I started collaborating with an old friend on a new song, the first new collaboration I've done in a long time. We set a time to work on it, and she came over drunk. Couldn't get her to focus, and the more I tried to focus her on the tasks we had set the more flustered and confused she became, eventually storming out claiming I was making fun of her way of writing, (not even applicable since we were just supposed to edit a piano part and brainstorm some instrumentation ideas for next time. I didn't respond to her increasingly angry, increasingly drunker texts, so now she's telling me that I don't value her friendship and that she's "fucking done."

Once in a geological age I meet someone I can work with, but most of the musicians that I meet are narcissists, emotionally stunted, or can't play, and in the words of this recent venture, I think I'm "fucking done," too. I'm perfectly content to make cool sounds alone in my bedroom. It's too bad, because I used to absolutely love performing with a group.

yes, i play in a shoegaze band (5-7 shows a year) and a experimental/noise/bleep one man project (just had my first gig last month, hopefully will play 4-6 times a year).

I always wanted to be in a band, but i never really went past the willing, and i really regret not joining one sooner, its a blast, even with the egos/dramas, playing live is amazing
